Saturday, April 18, 1953 Number 12 EDITORIAL COMMENT LET’S KEEP OUR CAMPAIGN CLEAN By Alberta S. Chandler Why is it necessary to throw mud at one an other during a political campaign? We are not living in the dark ages—this is the twentieth cen tury, the age of TV, the Einstien Theory, the Atom bomb. In the dark ages one had no alternative but to use brute force to accomplish his aims—and mud throwing in the twentieth centry is comparable to the brute force of the dark ages. Is it necessary to be enemies because we are political opponents? We must wake up and realize that in taking the affairs of the village and broad casting them to the world, you only lessen the prestige of the villagers, and since you live here also, suffer the same damage as the rest of us. And what good has been achieved? For only the voters in this village have the power to elect or defeat you. The voters are interested in two things only: I.—What training and experience have you had that is necessary for the office to which you aspire ? reg. 24.9 W. That, my friend, is all the voters are interested in, and if you already hold office and you are seek ing re-election, cite what you have accomplished during your tenure in office, and if you have carried out your oath of office to the best of your ability—you won’t find it necessary to throw mud to gain the attention of the voting public. It is said that charity begins at home, well let’s try it and while we are at it, mix a little of the religion we all profess to have—and win or lose, I’m sure we will feel the better having done so. A CITIZEN SPEAKS HIS MIND ABOUT ROBBINS AND POLITICS g I The citizens of Robbins as well as the ministers, desire a better village in which to live. This is evidenced by the fact that several months ago a large number of citizens of Robbins complained to their ministers that they had received unjust treatment at the hands of the Judge of the village. The min isters made a thorough investi gation and finding that the complaints were well founded, addressed a letter to the Mayor and Board of Trustees, but the ministers were denied a hear ing by the Village Board and Clerk. Subsequently, on No vember 18th, 1952, Judge Car los V. Lindsay signed com plaints against the ministers of the Gospel, Reverend Felix C. Taurvin, Reverend Matthew Anthony, Reverend Isaac Strong and Reverend C. H. Keller, charging them with Criminal Libel, in this, “that they did print and circulate a certain letter impeaching the honesty, integrity and reputa tion of the Complaintant to public hatred, contempt and ridicule.” The ministers’ trial was con ducted before Judge Harry A. Lambert in Homewood and after about five hours testimony in which the citizens of Robbins | (Continued on rage o) «uiHiiiiUHfiiiiiiiiiiHiiiittiiiiiiiiiiNimniiuiinimiiimtMiuiiRiHiimtiiiniHiiiiiiinmiiiiiiwimiiiiHHin| I Telephone: FUlton 8-0371 > j I NICK'S GROCERY & MARKET Fish :: Poultry : : Fruits :: Vegetables 5 13911 Claire Boulevard Robbins, Illinois 8 SniilllllllllilllllllllllllllllflUllllllllUlllllUmilltUlHIlHIHIIIIHIIItnilllltllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllIHUIIinl TELEPHONE FUlton 5 - 9671 KEROSENE — OILS — ACCESSORIES FIRESTONE PRODUCTS and CAR WASHING SERVICE Thomas E.
