Banquet For Basketeers Was Notable Highlighting school so era 1 functions was the banquet' held in Lincoln Memorial School au ditorium April 30, 1954 at 6:30 p.m., honoring the 1953 - 1954 basketball teams, numbering 28 and Coach John Walker. Lincoln team is the winner of the 1954 tournament trophy as well as many others which were on display at the banquet. Present for this occasion were the cheering squad, composed of 31 girls and their leaders, Superintendent B. Williams, Principal Hazel W. Bledsoe; Board Members, Geo. Wright, Ernest Lemon; Clerk J. Grzad zinski, Mayor Theodore Hen dricks, Mrs. Neely, Mr. Albert Johnson and faculty members. Toastmaster for the evening was Mr. S. Williams, who was introduced by Principal Hazel W. Bledsoe. The guest speaker was the nationally known Jesse Owens, who gave a most inspiring and challenging address. One that will long be remembered by all present. 1 Others adding to the enjoy ment of the occasion with words of wisdom and advice were Mayor Hendricks, A. V. Hensley, R. Hobson, P. M. Searcy, A. M. Cooke, E. T. Hunter, D. Harvey, Mr. Geo. Wright and Supt. Williams. Mr. J. Walker assisted by Supt. « Williams and Mr, E. Lemon presented Letters and Certifi cates of AWard to deserving members of the teams. Musical numbers were ren dered by Mrs. E. Ratliff, E. Trammell, M. Moody and W. Hoyle. Roscoe Brown's “Thanks” for the evening of enjoyment was captivating. Everyone left expressing themselves as having spent a “lovely evening.” f -o X-Ray Unit Here June 1 All Robbins residents, 15 years of age and over, will have an opportunity to check on their health through a free chest x ray on June 1st, when a mobile x-ray unit visits the community in a search for “unknown” cases of tuberculosis. In the Robbins x-ray for Health survey in 1953, 549 x* rays were taken, of which eight revealeed suspicious ' signs of TB. During the same year'one person died of TB and 11 persons were hospitalized in “Robbins, at a cost of $11,572,* the Suburban Cook County Tu berculosis Sanitarium District revealed. The free chest x-rays will be offered at the mobile unit, park ed by, the Lincoln Memorial School, on Tuesday, June 1st, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The survey is sponsored jointly by the Christmas seal-supported Tuberculosis Institute and the SCCTSD, in cooperation with the Cook County Department of Health, Robbins Health De partment and Robbins Health Council. “Although the primary pur pose of the program is to find TB in apparently healthy per sons,” said Dr. Edward A. Piszczek, executive director of the SCCTSD, “it isv stressed that the free chest x-rays also serve as a general health check, for they are able to reveal lung cancer, heart disorders and other chest conditions. The mayor opened the session and the usual routine of business began. This being the end of the fiscal year the reassignment of official duties of the Trustees was in order.
