Hospital Called House of Hope “We are all going to work towards making the new hospi tal-sanitarium a house of hope and happiness.” This was the pledge of Dr. Robert W. Keeton, speaking on behalf of the board of directors of The Suburban Cook County Tuberculosis Sanitarium Dis trict, as the organization dedi cated its new$3,500,000 hospital sanitarium Sunday (March 6). The unit is located at 55th and 'County Line Road, Hinsdale. In officially presenting the recently completed 174-bed in stitution to the citizens of sub urban Cook County, Dr. Keeton, District president, stressed that every provision has been made for complete care of the tuber culosis patient. As to tne physical plant itseir, he said, “you will be impressed by the conveniences which have been planned to make effective care of the patient possible. Among these details are the small individual rooms which give privacy to the sick person, an intercummunications system which assures the patient that a nurse is always at his elbow, well-equipped operating rooms, and air-conditioned recovery rooms which will protect the patient from the hot humid days of summer.” In addition, Dr. Keeton point ed out, the District has taken pains to provide a skilled, well qualified medical and nursing staff. “The Directors of the Dis trict,” he said, “are obligated to give the best Individual medi cal care possible, and at the same time to provide a staff capable of making contributions •■toward the development of new' knowledge in the field of tuber culosis. Toward these objectives, the new hospital-sanitarium pro vides botha dequate laboratories, and the opportunity for the staff to associate with the med ical leaders oft he city.” Others who appeared on the brief, formal dedication program prior to laying of the corner stone were County Judge Otto Kerner', former County Judge Edmund K. Jarecki, Dr. Jerome R. Head, first president of the District; Dr. Frank Fowler, president of the Chicago Medi cal Society; Ellis H. Denny, president of the Oak Park Trust and Savings Bank and chairman of the District’s citizens advisory committee; Dr. E. A. Piszczek, executive director of the District; Dr. William Lester, Jr.,chief of staff, and W. R. Williams, hospital administrator. Invoca tion and benediction were de livered by the Rev. G. A. Roehrs, member of the hospital chap lains group, Lutheran Church, and the Rt. Rev. Msgr. John W. Barrett, director of hospitals, Archliocese of Chicago. A two-day public open house will be held May 14 and 15 at the new hospital-sanitarium. -o Peoples Party To Hold Meeting The regular' meeting of the Peoples Party will be held at the Masonic Hall, 139th street and Lydia avenue at 8:00 o’clock All members and friends are asked to be present. H. Hunt, first to arrive on the scene, kept the death room clear of curious spectators and allowed Mrs. Morgan to call a friend of the family, Mr. Tom Conners of 4956 S. Calumet avenue. He arrived at the house a few min utes later and was admitted to the kitchen. After receiving in structions from Officer Hunt to remain in the rear part of the house, Conners was later caught going through the dead man’' pants. He explained that he was looking “just to see what I could see.” Conners stated that he had known the dead man practically all his life. Also participating in the in quest were the dead man’s sis ter, Officer Hunt, and Chief Aaron Stout. The case was con tinued until Friday, March 18, at 1:00 o'clock p.m., at the Vil lage Hiall. Coroner McCarran also recom mended that Mrs. Burkett and Conners be held for a lie de tector test. -o JOIN THE SUBURBAN FEDERAL CREDIT UNION fNEWS OF THE ELKS Greater Robbins Elks Lodge No. 1272 held its first Band Stand Matinee last Tuesday ev ening from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Elks Club. It was a wonderful success, being largely attended by the Senior Class of Blue Island High. The ladies who attended were Mrs. Carlena Harvey, Dtr. R. of Pride of Robbins Temple and Mrs. Paul C. Cochran, Mrs. Minnie Willett, Mrs. Lula Mar tin, all Daughter Elks and M. Branch. Refreshments were served and dancing was enjoyed by those who cared to indulge. Clifton Jackson and Barbara Verner won the Bebop Contest. They receiv ed a phonograph record each. Next Tuesday and every Tues day at the Elks Club, 135th and Turner avenue.
