o A t » 5 C I | J v f The American Issue ILLINOIS EDITION Volume XXV WESTERVILLE, OHIO, OCTOBER, 1930 Number 9 CANDIDATES RECOi BY ANTI- AGUE Candidates for United Stales Senator, Congress and State Legislature to be Voted for at the General Election, Novem ber 4, 1930; Based on Records and Statements of the Candidates in Support of the Maintenance and Enforcement of Prohibition THE OFFICIALS MAKE THE RECORDS—WE REPORT THEM TO OUR CONSTITUENCY LOTTIE HOLMAN O’NEILL, CANDIDATE FOR U. S. SENATOR Ruth Hanna McCormick, Republican candidate for the United States senate, was mentioned and accepted by the drys in the April primary election because she ran as a dry candidate. She was nominated. However, when the Republican convention met in Springfield, in August, Mrs. McCormick changed. Instead of taking a stand for the maintenance of the Eighteenth Amendment and its enforcement, as she should have done to keep faith with the people of the state who nominated her in the prin#ry, she agreed to abide by the result of a referendum in accordance with a plank written into the Republican state platform by wet leaders WHICH PROPOSES REPEAL OF THE EIGHTEENTH AMENDMENT. James Hamilton Lewis, Democratic candidate for the United States senate, is an out-and-out wet. But the drys are not without a candidate to support for this important office. Mrs. Lottie Holman O'Neill has filed as an Independent candidate for the position. Mrs. O’Neill, the first woman to be honored with membership in the Illinois legis lature, has been elected to the general assembly four times, hence, she has had broad experience as a legislator. She is thoroughly capable and trustworthy. Few members of the general assembly have inspired a higher confidence and esteem among their fellow members than has Mrs. O’Neill. She not only has a 100 per cent dry record, but has also been a leader for legislation in the interests of the public welfare, particularly for those issues and measures which most vitally concern the homes of the state. Her record will bear closest scrutiny. If elected to the United States senate she will acquit herself with honor to herself and to her constituency. Mrs. O’Neill is a Hoover Republican in politics, and if elected to the senate will work and carry out President Hoover’s policies for the observance and rigid enforce ment of the Eighteenth Amendment. Mrs. O’Neill lives at Downers Grove, Illinois. She is a member of the Episcopal Church. Please study these recommendations carefully and pass the informa tion on to others. The stability of prohibition and its enforcement depend upon the loyalty with which dry people support dry legislators and enforce ment officers. • MEMBERS OF LEGISLATIVE BODIES WHO ARE CANDI DATES FOR REELECTION AND HAVE VOTED DRY ARE “REC OMMENDED ON THEIR RECORDS.” DRY CANDIDATES NOT MEMBBERS.
