Lubel, Miss Fannye Rae Lubel, Miss Mabel Bernstein, and Mr. and Mrs. W. Tobin will be delighted to learn of their recovery from a recent automobile accident, in which they were seriously injured while en route to Pensacola, Florida, sever al weeks ago. The Jewish Progressive Club re cently entertained with a stag sup per in honor of two of their mem bers, Eddie Grodsky and William Berman, who are leaving shortly for the Army. Mr. Grodsky has al ready been ordered to report to | Fort Barrancas, Pensacola, Flori ! da, and Mr. Berman will leave the I first of January. Both boys were draftees. The tables were beauti fully arranged in the form of an “A” for Americanism, and high lights of this affair were address es by several local Jewish World War Veterans and Captain Leon Schwartz. Mrs. H. Z. Lubel and children, Allen and Kenneth, left Tuesday night for Charleston where they will join Mr. Lubel, who was re cently transferred there. Mr. and Mrs. Morris Finman of Pensacola, Fla., and formerly of Tampa, Fla., were recent visitors to Mobile. The Mobile Chapter of Senior Hadassah recently held a bazaar at the Jewish Progressive Club, as a fund raising project, which was a success financially, as well as so cially. On Sunday, December 22nd, the Mobile Unit of Junior Hadassah held its regular meeting to elect delegates to the Regional Confer ence in Savannah, Ga., to be held February 8, 9 and 10. Also at this meeting, they met jointly with the Beth Israel Young Judeans for a Meyer Sheffer party. Louis J. Buchman of Tampa, Fla., was a recent visitor to Mo bile. David Miller of New Orleans spent the past weekend in Mobile as the guest of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Miller. Fred Frisch, who has recently been transferred to Baton Rouge, La., spent Sunday in Mobile with his family. Jack Berman, of Farrel, Penn sylvania, is visiting the Berman family here in Mobile. Mrs. Harry Brook and son, Lar ry, are visiting relatives in Plant City, Fla. RICHARD On Sunday evening, December 15th, at Tallahassee, two Univer sity of Florida students could be heard muttering, “You can’t ar gue with a woman!” That same afternoon, Selma Schloss of West Palm Beach and Mitzi Joy Solo mon of Miami, representing the Hillel at the Florida State College for Women, debated with and de feated the University of Florida Hillel debating team of Sidney Aronovitz of Key West and Kurt Teutsch, university refugee stu dent. This gives the Tally Hillel girls the right to represent Flori 1a in the next round of the Na tional Hillel Debating Tournament. The girls had the negative side of the question, “Resolved, that op portunity for free speech should be denied those who advocate ra cial or religious discrimination in the United States. ** * * Hillelite Morris Haimowitz of Miami was the sole recipient at the University of Florida of a bid to membership in Phi Beta Kappa for the first semester of the pres ent school year. Morris earned this honor by compiling the excel lent scholastic average of 3.88 points out of a possible 4.00 in earning the Bachelor of Arts de gree. He is graduating at mid-year after having completed the usual four-year course in two and a half years. To Pharaoh, dreams came as threats of ruin and fears that his empire might crumble. To all, dreams come of the things very deeply on mind. Joseph on the throne seems harsh to his brothers. Oppressed by their guilty consciences, they lacked the calm judgment to piece together all their thoughts and to see the hints that Joseph was giv ing them of his relationship. To play his part, Joseph threatens the brothers with arrest; accuses them of being spies; asks of their home and plays upon their minds; seeks to make them excited and con fused; makes them submit to eat ing apart from the Egyptians in accordance., with., the., prevailing caste system of Egypt; tries to appeal to their memories and their conscience. , “If thou wilt send our brother with us, we will go down. But if thou send him not, we can not go down.” So the brothers appealed to their father that Benjamin must go with them. The brothers had learned that they must stand to gether and go as one group. Un less they can show that each is included, and that they all stand together in loyalty for the com mon protection, they must fail.
