Phi Beta Delta at University of Fla. By A DELTAN Delta’s banner year is here. In scholarship, her number one boast, she has again topped the campus for the twelfth consecutive se mester, thus retiring the second scholarship cup. Delta was able to retire the second cup with an honor point average of 2.552 on a 4 point ba sis. Brothers of Delta pinned pledge pins on thirty-three proud men the night of Friday, Sept. 13th. It was the largest group of neo phytes in Delta’s history to be honored by the diamond “A.” Delta’s big men on the campus hold a dominant role in extra curricular activities. Brother Ray Ehrlich, our representative in Blue Key, Phi Beta Kappa, and also a member of Who’s Who in American Colleges, holds down third rank in campus student government as Secretary of In terior. Brother Don Weiss is the first Deltan to hold the campus office as managing editor of the student newspaper, The Florida Alligator. Don is president of the Press club, a member of the var sity debate squad, and has been on his class executive council for the past two years. Brother Alfred Kohn, editor of the Florida Review, the university literary publication, also ranks as a senior intramural manager un der brother Si Hirshberg, the stu dent director of intramurals. Florida’s intramural department under the leadership of Brother Hirshberg has become renown throughout the collegiate world. Keeping Delta well represented in debate circles we have brother Sid Aronovitz as secretary of the debate club, with Delta being rep resented on both of this semester’s varsity debate trips with brother Nathan Aronovitz, who is also general debate ma'nager, making the Stetson trip, and brother Ar thur Courshon making the Dixie Tournament. Other brothers who will dominate varsity debate cir cles this year are our H. P. Bernie Fuchs and number one man in the business administration school in scholarship, Irving Cypen. We find Sherman Kaplan as the new prexy of Alpha Epsilon Delta, na tional honorary pre-med frater nity, and brother Harold Bloom our -newly initiated member of Beta Alpha Psi, national honor ary accounting fraternity. Delta’s bit to the national defense pro gram lies in her ROTC officers, with battalion adjutant Bloom and Lieutenants S. Kaplan, S. Davis, B. Fuchs, and S. Rothstein. Our bid to varsity athletics lies with varsity slugger Punchy Singer and Jack Suberman, basketeer. Delta’s drive toward intramural supremacy has started with a loud echoing bang. It has resulted in going to the finals in boxing and winnipg ping pong singles and ping pong doubles cups and the coveted basketball trophy. Today she ranks second in the intramural race.
