The main address was de livered, following a brief address of Rabbi Skop, by Dr. Samuel Blumenfield, noted educator and i director of the Youth Education | for the Zionist Organization of America. Dr. Blumenfield delivered i a most stirring and enlightening address explaining the signifi cance of Democracy to Jews and of Zionism to the American Jew. Myer Shader, accompanied by his young daughter, Fern Louise, i presented several vocal solos, in cluding the stirring rendition, "Ra chem” and “Invictus.” Over one hundred and thirty persons crowd ed the Synagogue social hall. At the close of the campaign a meeting of the allocations commit tee will be called by Barney J. Working in collaboration, Flori da Hillel and Tau Alpha of T. E. P. | are sponsoring the first Southern i Jewish Youth Conclave. The vari-! 1 ous delegations will represent Mi- 1 ami Univesrity, Florida State Col lege for Women, Rollings College, : University of Georgia, Georgia j Tech, Emory University, Alabama I Polytechnic, University of Alaba ma, College of Charlestown, Uni versity of South Carolina, Univer sity of North Carolina and Duke University. The weekend will be dedicated to cultural and social affairs. Plans have been made to secure the oratorical talents of several prominent Southern Jewish lead ers. The information and con tacts derived from this part of the affair should prove very benefi cial to those attending. The social problem is well in hand and the social committee has secured the services of one of the 1 state’s finest dance bands, Ted Sherwood and his Floridians. The fact that the affair is be ing sponsored in conjunction with the non-fraternity men marks a great forward step toward at taining that long absent spirit of cooperation between fraternity men and non-fraternity men at the University of Florida. SPORT NOTES: The entire uni versity was set agog last week with the news that Henry Gard ner of Tampa had broken the var sity high jump record of 6 ft. 3 in., setting it up to 6 ft. 3% in. He is also holder of the intramural rec ord of © ft. 2 in. Another record was set by a T. E. P. when Art Kallen of Syra cuse, N. Y., lopped 1.2 seconds off the intramural record for the 120 1 yd. low hurdles setting it at 12.8 i seconds.
