THE SOUTHERN JEWISH WEEKLY
T E P TALK
By IRWIN SLOTT
On the weekend of April 3,4, 5,
and 6 Tau Epsilon Phi will throw
open its doors to a conference of
Jewish youth from every univer
sity in the Southeast.
Working in collaboration, Flori
da Hillel and Tau Alpha of T. E. P. |
are sponsoring the first Southern i
Jewish Youth Conclave. The vari-! 1
ous delegations will represent Mi- 1
ami Univesrity, Florida State Col

University of Georgia, Georgia j
Tech, Emory University, Alabama I
Polytechnic, University of Alaba
ma, College of Charlestown, Uni
versity of South Carolina, Univer
sity of North Carolina and Duke
University.
The weekend will be dedicated
to cultural and social affairs.
Plans have been made to secure
the oratorical talents of several
prominent Southern Jewish lead
ers. The information and con
tacts derived from this part of the
affair should prove very benefi
cial to those attending.
The social problem is well in
hand and the social committee has
secured the services of one of the 1
state’s finest dance bands, Ted
Sherwood and his Floridians.
The fact that the affair is be
ing sponsored in conjunction with
the non-fraternity men marks a
great forward step toward at
taining that long absent spirit of
cooperation between fraternity
men and non-fraternity men at
the University of Florida.
SPORT NOTES: The entire uni
versity was set agog last week
with the news that Henry Gard
ner of Tampa had broken the var
sity high jump record of 6 ft. 3 in.,
setting it up to 6 ft. 3% in. He is
also holder of the intramural rec
ord of © ft. 2 in.
Another record was set by a
T. E. P. when Art Kallen of Syra
cuse, N. Y., lopped 1.2 seconds off
the intramural record for the 120
1 yd. low hurdles setting it at 12.8
i seconds.
