Monument To Religious Freedom To
Be Re-Dedicated

The Statue to Religious Liberty, only monument to one of the
freedoms guaranteed by the Bill of Rights, which was a gift of B’nai
B’rith to the people of the United States in 1876, will be re-dedicated
at a national religious freedom rally and Hanukah eve service to
be held at the Philadelphia Academy of Music on Sunday evening,
December 14th. The program will be broadcast over Station WIP and
the coast-to-coast network of the Mutual Broadcasting System from
10:15 to 10:80 P. M., Eastern Standard Time.
Haym Salomon Is Remembered
The dedication in Chicago of the
George Washington-Robert Morris-
Haym Salomon monument is to be
held on December 15th.
This monument is being pre
sented not only on the date of the
one hundred and fiftieth anniver
sary of the ratification of the
American Bill of Rights, but also
on the first day of Chanukah.
This seems to be a particularly
happy and significant coincidence
—that proper recognition should
at last be given to Haym Salomon
for his services to America on the
traditional observance of the
“Feast of Liberation”. The coin
cidence becomes all the more
marked when the same date
marks the coming into effect of
the American charter of Liberty,
including the guarantee of free
dom of religion, as represented by
the first ten amendments to the
Constitution of the United States.

Stimson Supports
A Jewish Army
Washington (JPS) —Secretary
of War Henry L. Stimson, in a
message addressed to a conference
held here by the Committee for a
Jewish Army, backed the idea of
such a force, saying “Free men
everywhere are arming for the de
fense of democracy. I send my
best wishes for the success of
your movement.”
Supporters of the idea were list
ed as including Ernst Lubitsch,
Congressman Adolph J. Sabath,
Louis Bromfield and Ben Hecht.

The Publisher Speaks
On The War
(The following has just been received from Capt. Mosco
vitz, who is now on duty at Fort Benning, Ga.)
We are now at war. During the coming years
many of us will lose relatives and friends in another
world-wide struggle to defend our lives together with
our ideals of liberty, freedom, and justice.
In the midst of our fight to preserve those things
we hold dear we again hear the cry for “unity.” But
no longer does this word have a hollow sound.
Today unity among all Americans is as urgent as
the guns our brethren are firing on the front lines.
Let Americans of every creed and religious affil
iation forget their differences and work together for
the common good.
And let certain groups within our great democ
racy strive to forget their petty jealousies, business
and professional hatreds, and group rivalries to join
together in the true spirit of Americanism.
In the days to come many of us will be bolstered
during our personal crises by spiritual support and
THAT alone and no heart can be true to itself without
first cleansing of pettiness.
WE FIGHT AS AMERICANS AND WE
FICHT AS JEWS
Specifically, our community in Jacksonville, as in
other cities, has its share of Jews who are frankly
afraid to assert their Jewishness; they stand firmly
against any institution which publicly seeks to show the
Jews in their true light as American citizens of Jewish
faith, who, as Americans first and then as Jews, have
a definite right to contribute to our nation’s well
being.
These people think that all Jews should be seen
and not heard.
This small clique is afraid to support Palestine,
for example, because their own loyalty to the United
States might be questioned and they, themselves,
thereby suffer personally.
A courageous Jew stands for what he thinks is
right, without regarding personal injury to himself.
Every true American of every creed has a right
to think and say what he honestly believes to be right.
We pray that those who fight our established
institutions which seek to bring truth and justice for
our people will stop to consider the great harm they
are doing to our people in general before continuing
their nefarious scheme to injure those of our people
who see their duty and are not afraid to do it.
Remember! Anti-Semitism is an artificial prob
lem created to serve evil ends. Hitler, before plung
ing the world into war, started his mad adventure by
using Jews as scapegoats. His propaganda agents are
working in America NOW. Let us fight with every
ounce of strength TOGETHER to show us Jews as we
are.
This publication is dedicated to that end in WAR
as in PEACE to reflect the true body and soul of the
people, Israel, and to fight for those principles of
Americanism which make every minority group free
to carry on its work.
Every group in America has a definite contribu
tion to make. Those within a minority who seek to ifn
pede the progress of that group are being unfair to
America as well as to themselves.
Support those institutions which are carrying the
torch for > Americanism. And damit those who. are
