Lieberman then re ported on the business sessions of the conference and the symposium which was held on Sunday. He also told of the Oneg Shabbat which was tendered the delegates by the Senior Hadassah chapter of Memphis. Harry Katz then told of the two outstanding addresses made dur ing the convention, one by Rabbi J. Marks of Nashville, Tenn., and the other by Rabbi J. Heller. At the Friday night services which were held Rabbi Marks said, “Zionism has a strong appeal for unity among all Jews —a plea that Jews solidify themselves so as to work in closer harmony because in harmony and cooperation there is strength, and Zionism knows no distinction between rich and poor — orthodox or reformed.” The Rabbi went on to say, Mr. Katz reported, •'lt’s (Zionism) purpose is to es tablish a national home or state for all Jews. Jews, wherever they may be, who desire to go there and live by voluntary choice or as a haven of refuge, or those already there who choose to re main; but above all things it should be a matter of right and not by sufferance.” One of the most pertinent ques tions which he answered was: Why contribute to Palestine when its future is so uncertain? Rabbi Mark told of the courageous Yishuv who is willing to die fight ing for their little homeland. This group is looking to us for encour agement and support, he said. He also declared that if the allies lose this war Jewry is doomed all Jewry, not ony Palestine, and that we must continue fighting for our homeland while we still may. Rabbi James Heller’s speech, was dynamic, Mr. Katz said. He asked for a "Renewed Zionist Allegiance.” Jews were in a death struggle for existence. Even if this war is won, where will they go at the conclusion? “What a blessing if they can go to Pales tine,” he declared. "The answer is with us,” he ended. NEXT MEETING Mr. Katz’s report was heartily received by the assemblage. The next meeting of the district will be held in the Center on January 12th at 8:15 o’clock, it was an nounced. All those interested are invited to attend.
