Mrs. Nat Gold Is
Hadassah Head
Program at the last meeting of
the Senior Hadassah Chapter until
the Fall, was dedicated to Mother
and Daughter. At the business
session, the election of officers
was a highlight, Mrs. Nat Gold
being named president, succeed
ing Mrs. Max Glickstein.
The slate of officers, presented
by Mrs. Lester Bernstein, nomi
nations committee chairman, was
accepted unanimously. Re-elected
were: Mrs. Lester Bernstein, first
vice president; Mrs. Jennie Feig
enbaum, second vice president;
Mrs. Harry Eff, secretary; and
Mrs. Max Jaffe, treasurer. In
stallation ceremonies will be held
in October.
Mrs. Max Glickstein presided at
the meeting and Mrs. Nat Gold
and Mrs. Abe Friedman were in
charge of the program. Much ap
preciated was the original poem
written by Mrs. Lester Bernstein,
and dedicated to each member and
her family. These clever verses
were read by Mrs. Gold.
The retiring president, Mrs.
Glickstein, gave a resume of her
term of office, outlining the work
that has been done during the
Hadassah year just closing.
A candlelight pageant repre
senting the Spirit of Motherhood
wa3 presented, with the following
members taking part: Mrs. M.
Glickstein, Mrs. S. G. Glickstein,
Mrs. Harry Eff, Mrs. Max Jaffe,
Mrs. Abe Friedman, Mrs. F. Wex
ler, Mrs. Lester Bernstein, Miss
Rose Keller, Mrs. Nat Gold and
Mrs. Lou Lewis. The Young
Judean Club also took part in the
program, offering a group of song
selections.
Hostesses for the closing social
were MTs. Jennie Feigenbaum,
Mrs. Harry Eff, Mrs. G. Glick
stein and Mrs. J. M. Friedman.

One of the most interesting
speakers to hit here in many a
day was August Classius who ad
dressed the Vladeck Club last
Wednesday night and the Pro
gressive Club on Thursday night
last . . . Although Classius is
not Jewish he convulsed the Vla
deck’s with his mastery of the
Yiddish tongue and its special
aptitude for humor ... It seems
that on Thursday night some of
his jokes went astray and some of
the audience received the impres
sion that Classius was anti-
Semitic . . . which is most la
mentable, because the good man
understands the Jewish problem
better than a great many Jews.
. . . Classius stands for every
thing that is good and just . . .
He understands too that the Jew
ish question is not an, isolated
question, but one tied up with the
entire question of humanity . . .
His job is that of educating people
to the golden rule ... It can be
stated as simply as that . . .
Maxine Rosenblatt is vacation

over the air last Sunday follow
ing the broadcast of his play, “My
Mother” over the Blue Theatre.
. . . Yes, he is the son of the J.
Diamonds of this city and the
play was the story of his family.
. . . The broadcast was a beauti
ful demand for tolerance and un
derstanding of the foreign born.
. . . Jacksonville is proud of
Muni . . .
Speaking of the foreign born
we heard a most amusing tale
from one Sunday School teacher.
. . . It seems that those children
whose families up to now rather
snobbishly admitted that their
ancestry was anything but Rus
sian are now spreading their
wings and proclaiming that
grandpop and grandma were both
Russian no less . . .
