Whispers have it that some kind 1

Six Rabbis Ordained To Release
Men For Chaplaincy

Above are the graduates of the Hebrew Union College, ordained
at an unusual mid-year graduation of the Hebrew Union Colloge,
Cincinnati, on Saturday, January 16. These men were to have grad
uated in June of 1943, but their course of study was accelerated so
they could occupy pulpits to release men for Chaplaincy service, and
themselves be eligible a year earlier for war service. These mem
bers of this class returned from pulpits they occupy as replacement
for Chaplains in the Army and Navy, for the graduation exercises.

financing the Jewish News has in
spired the former Detroiter,
Kurt Peiser v . . Somebody ought
to whisper the facts of life to the
omniscient editor of the New
York Times who, in an editorial
a few days ago, insisted and kept
on repeating that Ilya Ehren
bourg, famous Russian Jewish
novelist and war correspondent, is
a “she.” Ilya is about as stalwart
a he-man as the Soviet Union
boasts , . . The Times, which
didn’t hesitate to express its dis
pleasure a few years ago with a
brilliant correspondent in Spain
whose pro-democratic dispatches
angered the Catholic Church here,
doesn’t seem to mind it that its
Middle Eastern correspondent,
Joseph M. Levy, now in the
U. S. A., is circulating widely with
his anti-Zionist talk. Levy is said
to be the godfather of Arthur
Hays Sulzberger’s anti-Zionism.

Bloch, head of the Semitics Divis

brary, containing serious charges

an active Zionist and was once
vice president of the American
Federation of Zionists . . . The
Jewish experts would suggest that
it’s a case of the Talmudic charac
terization, “Hometz ben Yayin,”
(Vinegar, son of wine) ... In
his letter to Dr. Samuel Mar
goshes, Day editor, in which Ar
thur Hays Sulzberger spoke elo
quently of his father’s Jewishness,
he conveniently failed to recall
the fact that the man who tries
so hard to hurt Zionism is the
son of one who worked zealously
to preserve it . . . And talking
of anti-Zionists, isn’t it very
strange that when the reaction
aries get to work, they don’t
know the difference between Zion
ists and anti-Zionists?....Take, for
example, that series of vicious at
tacks by Westbrook Pegler on
liberal David Dubinsky, who is
called “unassimilated though nat
uralized.” Dubinsky is one of
those who thinks Zionism invites
attacks on American Jews! He
himself glories in his anti-Zion
ism!
