America Wants Brandeis’ Palestine Vision Fulfilled, Said Supreme Court Justice Robert H. Jackson “What true American would not rejoice to see fulfillment of Brandeis’ vision that men of his stock should resurrect this life and culture of the people of the Bible in that little land where our faith was founded?” This was the keynote of the message brought by Supreme Court Justice Robert H. Jackson JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA, FRIDAY, JULY 9, 1943 Nazis Send 50,000 Jews to 7/ Death Camps 7/ In Reprisal For R.A.F. Bombing of Dams Axis Use Anti- Semitism To Check Defeatism ZURISH (JTA) —German and Italian newspapers reaching here this week reveal increased ten sion both in Italy and throughout the Reich, which the governments of both countries are trying to check by intensified anti-Jewish propaganda, with the emphasis on allegations that the Jews will re venge themselves on every “Aryan” should the Axis be de feated. In Italy this propaganda seems to have little effect upon the av erage Italian. Therefore the "In stitute for Study of the Jewish Problem” which was established in Bologna along the same lines as similar anti-Jewish “institutes” in Germany, has just published a “documentary volume” trying to convince the Italian people that the Jews, and not Hitler or Mus solini, are responsible for the war. In Germany the Nazi propa gandists are faced with a situa tion where they are forced to “explain” the cause for the sud den intensified anti-Jewish propa ganda when there are practically no Jews left in the Reich. The “explanations” are centered chief ly around the allegations that American and British Jews are determined to have all Germans exterminated after the war in re taliation for the Nazi annihilation of Jews. The German newspapers also use anti-Jewish incidents in the United States. They magnify dis criminations against Jews i n American war industries and pre sented the recent race riots in Detroit as anti-Jewish rather than anti-Negro. to 1,800 union leaders, represent atives of Trade associations and figures prominent in American Zionism who, in the Hotel Com modore, New York, celebrated an other milestone of progress in the realization of the plan for a Louis D. The majority of the deportees— who came originally from Czecho slovakia, Austria and Germany had been confined at Terezin for many months. They were kept completely isolated and were jam med together in a comparatively small area with little provision for food, shelter or sanitation. They were told that they were be ing sent to Poland because a Jew ish refugee from the Ruhr had advised the Royal Air Force to bomb the Eder and Mohne dams. The British Government, however, had already denied a report that the suggestion to destroy the dams came from a Jewish refu gee. The Reichsanzeiger, organ of the Nazi Protector in Prague, which reached here this week, carries a list of 88 Jews whose property was confiscated last week because they had either suc ceeded in escaping abroad, or had German nationals INTERNED IN PALESTINE REFUSE TO RETURN TO REICH TEL AVIV (JTA)—Ger man settlers in Palestine who were interned as ene my aliens after the out break of war are refusing to be exchanged for Peles tinian citizens interned in the Reich, and have ex pressed the desire to remain in isolation camps here rather than be repatriated to Germany. by the National Committee for the Louis D. The same report which came from the underground movement in Poland, also stated that a transport of 340 Dutch Jews was massacred by the Nazis at Sochy, near Swierzyniec-Lubelski, and that a group of 100 Jewish women and children from Holland was killed in Sarajewka, near Potok. Another group of 150 Dutch Jews was annihilatel by the Nazis in the village of Tursk. Another report reaching here stated that the “Jewish camps” which the Nazis organized to house Jews in occupied Holland | are being dissolved as a result of intensified deportations of Jewish j internees to Nazi-held territories l in Eastern Europe. The report, which supplements previous advices to the effect that all the Jews of Holland have either been deported or are held in concentration camps awaiting deportation, reveals that the Nazi authorities issued an order that individual parcels intended for the interned Jews should no longer be addressed to their camps directly, since these camps were being dis solved, but “to a distribution cen ter from where they will be for warded,” the report says.
