COLUMBUS, GEORGIA , THE SOUTHERN JEWISH MONTHLY Jews In Uniform I Ensign Milton Sanders, 24, of Franklin, N. C., B a Navy ordinance expert returned to the United 111 States after overseas duty, was recalled to Eng- Kj land last month to be decorated by the British M| Government with the George Medal. “The King |||||| has been graciously pleased," the citation to Ensign Sanders reads, “to approve the following Mi award for great gallantry and skill in rendering $1 safe two high explosive weapons which had been Hg|| hurled from an aircraft in a crash landing in Lt. Daniel M. Roth, 26, of Eufaula, Ala., nav dHH igator on a Liberator Bomber, has been killed 'll * n ac^on in the vicinity of the Marshall Islands. mtjmm A cornet and trumpet player with a noted or- IpfigPll chestra, Lieutenant Roth had been in service five years. Pvt. Philip Silverman, 24, of Pensacola, Fla., a HS paratrooper, killed in combat, has been posthu mously awarded the Purple Heart. A veteran of seven years of service in the Army, Private Silverman has seen j duty in the Canal Zone before see ing action in North Africa, Sicily, and finally Italy, where he was killed. Pfc. Morris D. Silverberg, U. S. Marine Corps, 18, of Houston, Texas, has been awarded the Purple Heart “for wounds receiv ed in action during the Gilbert Islands occupation, November, 1943.” Private Silverberg is now back on active duty after being hospitalized for four months. Selling The Jordan Down The Thames (Continued from Page Two) will receive twenty million ounces of silver for coinage purposes from reserves at West Point. There is no need to offer, in addi tion, the 10,429 square miles of Palestine, no matter what gratuit ous promises have been made in complete disregard of the inter nationally-ratified Balfour Declar ation, the American-British Pal estine Mandate Convention of 1924 and the Permanent Mandates Commission of the League of Na tions. Oil concessions in Arabia and Kuwait, whether owned by American or British Companies, do not call for the throwing in of a Palestine without Jews as an extra bonus. It need not be fear ed that the Saudi-Arabians will back out of the bargain already made, for the benefit is theirs. The development of these conces sions in Arabia will produce great wealth for that country. We are informed that Brigadier General Patrick Hurley has made some acute observations on this matter, but, then, his objections to a National Homeland for the Jews is well known. He, who once before had attempted to submit to members of Congress an anti- Zionist memorandum, again raises the old clamor of "military exped iency." I fear me that the gentleman has dwelt too long in British Colonial Office circles and, like the chameleon, has taken on the color of his surroundings. Nor can we lightly dismiss British domination of Lebanon and Syria. The recent political explosions there are alleged to have been British inspired. Were they? Jewish colonization in Palestine will not be stopped, not by oil, not by "power politics,” not by frame up trials, not by appeasement, not by talk of a Pan-Arab Federation, and certainly not by the muzzling of Congressmen. We do not fear the enemies of honor. We have but to name them to defeat them. SpedalMßff ta Best Seafoods Obtainable BEST RSH CO. Mmr IS So. Neman SC. Phenes 5-7870 - 5-7871 Lt.
