Jewish Communists ; Launch Anti- Religious Campaign In Bulgaria By HAYIM OVED Independent Jewish Press Service Overseas Staff Istanbul (JPS) The Jewish communists in Bulgaria have launched a weekly newspaper which has embarked on an anti religious campaign, demanding that synagogues be converted in • to clubs, circumcision be forbid den, the Sabbath abolished, mixed marriages encouraged and Jewish names Bulgarized “in accordance with the full emancipation grant ed by the Government.” This group has also arranged, it is re ported, a series of anti-religious entertainments in Sofia and its provinces for the Seder nights. Bernstein, to the Pacific on a tour of combat zones in that area to survey the religious needs of the thousands of Jew ish servicemen there. Rankin WASHINGTON, (JTA) Rep resentative John E. Rankin, Mis sissippi Democrat this week at tacked Governor Dewey for sign ing the Ives-Quinn bill barring racial discrimination in employ ment. The bill, he said, is “the greatest betrayal of the white Americans of New York that state has ever known.” Addressing the House pf Rep resentatives, Rankin demanded that “white Gentiles should be protected from the persecutions they are now compelled to en dure.” He also called for defeat of the bill for a permanent Fair Employment Practices Commis sion, on which a Senate sub committee has been holding hear ings. The following day, Rep. Adam C. Powell, Jr., of New York re plied to Rankin, denouncing the “few perverted Un-Americans’ who “distorted the facts” con cerning the New York State PEPC law. “Fortunately the best thinking, and therefore, the majority of the white Gentiles of this coun try,” Rep.
