Mordecai Slotnick, director of
Hebrew programs of the official
Palestine Broadcasting Service,
which has been broadcasting a
Hebrew version of the Eternal
Light radio program. The first
program to be produced was Mor
ton Wishengrad’s The Battle of the
Warsaw Ghetto. Mr. Slotnick re
ports enthusiastic response to the
program, which is prepared by the
Jewish Theological Seminary of
America and broadcast in this
country as a public service of the
National Broadcasting Company.

Dr. Wise Declares Executions Indicate
Britain Indifferent to Public Opinion
> Dr. Stephen S. Wise, this week, charged Britain with pursuing its
oivn way with indifference to public opinion and scorning the protests
of world Jewry. Commenting on the execution of Dov Bela Gruner
and three other Jewish youths, Dr. Wise asserted the Labor Govern
ment with bringing ineffable shame to England and reminded her
“England is old, but Israel is older. Israel has seen civilizations fall
of greater duration than the centuries of England.”
DR. WISE’S STATEMENT
FOLLOWS:
“The Romans said ‘Whom the
gods would destroy they first
made mad’. This saying must be
amended to meet the case of Brit
ain: ‘Whom the gods would des
troy, they first made idiotically
indifferent to the promptings of
conscience’. What has come over
the mind of England:—to slay
those four young men, one of
them a soldier in the British
army, driven to action against
Britain because of Britain’s ruth
less conduct in relation to Jews,
who would have, and should by
right have, what every English
man has, —a National Home.
“Scorn and execration are too
late to avail. But what a sorry,
indeed tragic, ending for a chapter
of history that began so well and
so hopefully; Jews compelled into
a land into which they have every
moral and legal right to enter,
Zionist Sabbath Slated
For Center, May 2nd
One of the largest gather
ings ever to attend a sabbath
service in Jacksonville is ex
pected to be recorded on Fri
day night, May 2nd, when Jew
ish National Fund Golden Book
Certificates will be presented
those who have honored loved
ones by having their names in
scribed therein.
Rabbi Sanders A. Tofield
will deliver a special sermon,
“The Promise of the Land.”
Jack Becker, president of the
Jacksonville Zionist District,
will present the certificates.
Members of the Masada Club
will act as ushers, while Jun
ior Hadassah and Young Jud
ea Club members will act as
hostesses in the auditorium fol
lowing the services.
Special seating arrangements
will be prepared for the aud
itorium, with Sr. Hadassah
members preparing Palestinian
delicacies. Cantor Abraham
Marton and the Center choir
will render appropriate select
ions during the service and in
the auditorium.
All Zionists groups in Jack
sonville will be represented at
the affair, with greetings ex
tended by their leaders. Isa
dore Moscovitz is chairman of
the evening, with I. J. Edel
stein, J. N. F. chairman, assist
ing.
