ZIONIST MOODS The American section of the Jewish Agency executive is con ducting negotiations for the broad ening of its membership to include representatives o f non-Zionist groups ... Non-Zionist leaders have received proposals for recon stitution of the Agency so as to give adequate representation to the non-Zionists ... It is hoped in Zionist circles that the process of enlarging the Agency will be com pleted before the United Nations take up the Palestine issue . . . This would enable the Agency to appear before the U. N. as the representative of all major groups in Jewish life . . . Officially the Agency intends to present to the U. N. the demand for the estab lishment of a Jewish Common wealth . . . This demand, however, will be modified by a provision that any trustee appointed for Palestine by the U. N. must in the interim period fulfill all obliga tions of the mandate as adopted by the League of Nations ... It is anticipated that Britain will attempt to secure the trusteeship over Palestine without some of the mandate obligations . . . This is what the leaders of the Agency fear most . . . Some of them be lieve that Britain is likely to achieve its aim to retain the man date . . . They are under the im pression that the new interest which the United States is taking in Greece and Turkey has brought the American Government closer to Britain on the Palestine ques tion . . . Zionist leaders have no ticed recently a slight withdrawal in Washington with regard to the Palestine issue . . . They feel that the U. S. attitude is less clear than prior to the decision of oui government to take a hand in the Greek situation . . . Awnings JAX VENTILATED AWNING CO. This picture of 5-year-old Ruth Schwarz, taken in Europe after libera tion, shows her coat torn by shrapnel in the battle that led up to freeing of the camp where she was imprisoned by the Nazis. Ruth’s survival was a mod ern parallel to the story of Daniel and the lions. She and her mother were saved by the whim of a Nazi officer be cause the little girl courageously fondled a savage dog trained to kill prisoners. They were reunited later with Mr. Schwarz. The family found haven in the United States and were resettled on the West Coast with the aid of United Service for New Ameri cans, whose work is supported by the $170,000,000 campaign of the United Jewish Appeal for 1947, ISSER PRICE UNVEILING SET FOR SUNDAY The ceremony for the unveil ing of the monument on the grave of the late Isser Price will take place at 2 P. BRITISH TERMS A serious controversy over ttfe British proposal on Palestine is expected at the special session of the United Nations . . . The British have recommended that the U. N. session limit itself to setting up a fact finding committee oij Pales tine for preparatory study before the regular session of the U. N. General Assembly in September... But Britain has no power to limit debate at the special session to a question of procedure . . . Conse quently, if the session will insist on debating the substance of the Palestine issue which Britain would prefer to see deferred—the British delegation by itself could do nothing to stop it ... It must be noted that the United States, Soviet Russia and France, all of whom supported the calling of a special session, are not committed to the idea that the meeting do nothing more than set up an in vestigating committee . . . The possibility is therefore foreseen that some of the great powers may prefer the special session to get down to the essence of the Pales tine situation and to make immed iate recommendations . . . The chances are also strong that the five Arab League members of the United Nations will oppose the es tablishment of a fact finding com mittee and will try to develop dis cussions on the Palestine issue on a much broader basis ... If the U. N. session decides on an immed iate debate on the substance of tha Palestine problem, the British delegation may wait to see how the debate develops before taking further decisions . The British Government’s policy is to present to the fact-finding committee, if any is set up, a de tailed memorandum describing British policy and administration in Palestine.
