British Paper Sees U. S. Breaking
Promises To The Jews
LONDON', May 2 (Palcor) —The Statesman, in a long
today, delves into America’s policy on Palestine and predict:
ingly that the United States will renege on its traditional
of Zionism, just as once pro-Zionist British statesmen ha'
leaving Foreign Secretary Bevin with a “pyrrhic victory—a
to leave Britain in charge in Palestine because no one wants
of suppressing the Jews, but nearly everyone has an intc
courting the Arabs.”
The UN Assembly, now delib
erating the Palestine issue, is
more concerned with the balance
of power than with justice or hu
man happiness, the Statesman
says, adding that the Jewish Na
tional Home will survive only if
its existence is to the advantage
of one side or another, and since
Russia has nothing to gain by
supporting it, its fate depends up
on America and Britain.
But, the article continues, faced
with the necessity of making good
America’s promises, Secretary of
State Marshall “will equivocate as
shabbily as any British statesman
for the same reason. The threat
of going over to the enemy has
never yet failed Arab diplomats
