Overseas Delegation Reaches Germany MUNICH —The United Jewish j Appeal overseas delegation qf 35 American Jewish communal lead ers arrived in Germany following an impressive reception by dis tinguished spokesmen of French Jewry who told the visiting Jew ish leaders that American assist ance through the United Jewish Appeal, during the war and since liberation, had made possible the saving of hundreds of thousands of lives. The American Jewish represent atives, who are making a four week survey of Jewish needs in Europe and Palestine in conjunc tion with the $250,000,000 nation wide compaign of the United Jewish Appeal in 1948, will con fer in Germany with General Lucius D. Clay, U. S. military commander here, on the special problems of the 250,000 Jewish displaced persons now spending their third winter since liberation in the D. P. camps. Mr. Ford, who has been a mem ber of the Ford board of directors since 1941, and a member of its policy committee since 1946, will assume his duties as chief execu tive of Lincoln-Mercury Division immediately. Thomas W. Skinner, who has been general manager of the di vision since its inception in Octo ber 1945, will continue in that post. In announcing the election of Benson Ford by the board of di rectors, Henry Ford 11, president of the Ford Motor Company, said: “The appointment of my brother to the top executive post of the Lincoln-Mercury Division comes when the Division is on the thres hold of its greatest expansion program which will further estab lish it as a separate entity. “There are very definite plans for the future of Lincoln-Mercury. We intend to go after the business in the medium and high-priced fields more aggressively. “To do this our line of cars is being expanded and completely redesigned. Three new assembly plants are being constructed and an entirely separate dealer organ ization is being developed.” Benson Ford, who is 28, becomes top executive of the Lincoln- Mercury Division at the same age as his brother became president of Ford two years ago.
