1947 Miami Federation Honor Roll
Reveals 6,388 Contributors
The 1947 Honor Roll of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation,
published and mailed during the past week to more than 10,000
Jewish families in this area, reveals that 6,388 donors contributed
approximately $929,800 in 1947 to the Combined Jewish, Appeal for
52 local, national and overseas agencies.
The 1947 figure represents an increase of 1,252 donors over the
previous year and an increase of $98,711 in contributions over the
1946 figure.
The growth of Miami’s Federation in its first nine years of
existence is graphically shown in the Honor Roll, as follows:

Drive have already pledged $321,-
000 to the 1948 campaign.

Candidacy for Sheriff
W. M. (Tommy) Tomlinson,
formerly detective sergeant and
first to qualify for the office of
Sheriff of Duval County, has an
nounced his candidacy for this
office, subject to the Democratic
primaries.
A native of Georgia, Tomlinson
has resided here 27 years. He was
a member of the Jacksonville Po
lice Department for 22*6 years,
attaining the rank of detective
sergeant in charge of the homicide
and auto theft division before his
retirement two years ago. He is
now owner and operator of the
Jacksonville Criminal Investiga
tion Night Patrol Service.
Active in civic and community
affairs, ’he is a member of the
Baptist Church, Scottish Rite
Masons, Morocco Temple, Cham
ber of Commerce, Gator Bowl
Association, Florida Peace Officers
Association, Forteenth Ward Pro
gressive Club and honorary mem
ber Grand Park Civic Club.
“I have become a candidate for
this important office with the full
realization of the grave responsi
bility confronting the man selected
as sheriff,” Tomlinson said. "I
shall conduct a progressive and
vigorous campaign, taking a def
inite and positive stand on each
issue that develops.
If the citizens of this county
honor me with this office, it shall
>e my policy to donate my entire
tension from the city to charity
during my administration. The
duties of the office will be fulfilled
n an honest, fearless and im
partial manner. I will deeply ap
preciate the support of those cit
izens who feel this office should
be conducted in their best interest
as has been outlined in this an
nouncement.”
