Among the veterans participating in this march were Sol Glatt, Ernest Morganthau, Moe Jaslow, and M. Levinson. One of the highlights of the evening was the unfurling of the Blue and White Flag of the newly created State of Israel. The Flag was brought in by Alan Kalishman followed by members of the Pensacola Young Judaean Club. The audi ence then stirringly joined in the singing of Hava Nogilah, which means “Come Let Us Rejoice Brethren”. A beautiful blue and white cake with the Star of David in the center and the words “Two Thous and Year Old Dream Fulfilled”, was presented by Myra Ordon and accepted by Mrs. Harry Fish, May the New Jewish State Be a Beacon of Light in The Near East BOWICK'S GARAGE “EXPERT MEN” Phone 5-2815 323 E. 15th Street THE SOUTHERN JEWISH WEEKLY President of the local chapter of Hadassah, and by Mr. Oscar Willenzik, president of the local chapter of the Zionist Organiza tion of America, who both gra ciously accepted in behalf of their respective organizations. Brief talks were then given by the following: Mrs. Harry Fish, Mr. Oscar Willenzik, Mrs. Sarah Landy, Mrs. Kiva Oberstein. Mrs. Sarah Katzenelenbogen, who had just returned from New York and Washington, gave a most inspiring talk of the unfurling of the Ih*.v of Israel over the New' Embassy in Washington, which she was privileged to witness. One of the most eloquent and inspiring talks of the evening was given by Mr. Joseph Bresler, an active and untiring worker in be half of the Zionist movement. He stated, “This moment is so sacred, the occasion so historic and epocn making, that words fail to ade quately grasp and describe the real significance of this gigantic and overwhelming event. The main address of the evening was presented by Rabbi Jacob Holz man who asked the audience to rise and utter the prayer of Thanksgiving in Hebrew and in English. Special praise and ex pression of gratitude was given to our own beloved country, the United States of America, for being the first to recognize the new State of Israel. Through the efforts of Mr. Phillip Goldenberg and Mr. Abe Levin, $6,000 (Six Thousand Dollars) was raised that evening for the United Jewish Appeal and for the Haganah. The program closed with the singing of Pales tinian songs by Mr. Jack Goldberg who was born in Palestine.
