We have tried it for 3,000 years, and we have had more persecution in recent years than ever before.” He urged a positive approach J° *he problem, a reciting of the essons of history, of humanity an d of constitutional government. He was noted for his persistent ef forts to make the American press amenable to the Nazi point of view. Von Strempel was named in a 1941 “White Book” issued by the House Committee Investigating Anti-Zionist Arch bishop Returns; Sings New Tune JERUSALEM (MNB) Mon signor George Hakim, Arab Bish op of the Greek Orthodox Com munity in Galilee, has returned to Israel singing a new tune. Prior to recent hostilities, Bishop Hakim was notoriously anti-Zionist. When Arab-Is raeli warfare broke out, he fled to Beirut. Fr6m there he left for Europe where he traveled extensively preaching anti-Zion ism. This month, the Bishop re turned to Haifa on a United Na tions plane, accompanied J?Y three clergymen. On landing, Bishop Hakim stated that now Israel is a fact, the Jews must treat Arabs fairly without dis crimination. He said he had left political life and hoped the Is raeli Gov’t, would now permit him to visit all sections of his community in order to prepare a memorandum on the position of churches in Israel, which he would submit to the Pope. Administration at Dropsie, who will speak on “A Curriculum for Modern Middle East Studies.” Speakers at the Tuesday morn ing session will be John Marsh, Secretary of the Middle East In stitute, who will speak on “The Aims of Students of Modern Middle East Studies,” and Dr. John A. Loftus, Professor of Economics at the Middle East In stitute, who will discuss “The Aims of Middle East Studies.” Professor Samuel will preside. Un-American activities as hav ing abused his diplomatic priv ileges by disseminating Nazi propaganda and race hatred in the U. S. The record includes corres pondence between von Strempel and Manfred Zapp, a Goebbels agent, in which it was plotted to propagandize wealthy Ameri cans vacationing in Florida on behalf,of the Third Reich. Von Strempel also procured fraudul ently a set of Maryland auto li cense plates to facilitate the ac tivities of Zapp. The Anti-Nazi League also pointed to public evidence that von Strempel was closely assoc iated with the propaganda activ ities of Ullrich ' von Gestapo chieftain at the Ger mans’ Washington Embassy, and press attache Ernest Hepp, who worked in Washington and Stockholm with Hitler’s friend, Ambassador Hans Thomsen. Commenting upon General Clay’s assurances that none but politically clean Germans would be permitted to come to New York in connection with the Ger man industry exposition here, Prof. James H. Sheldon, Admin istrative Chairman and Hon. Herman Hoffman, Chairman, Board of Directors, of the Non- Sectarian Anti-Nazi League in a joint statement said: “General Clay’s assurances on this point are meaningless as long as he takes no steps to bar exhibiting companies whose owners and managers were min ions of the Hitler regime. In such cases the imprint ‘Made in Ger many’ really means ‘Favored by the Gestapo.’ Until these con cerns have been reorganized from top to bottom Which has not yet been done good Ameri cans will not buy their products. To clear exhibitors like Lanz and Rosenthal, in the face of their flagrant Nazi records, is to invite Americans to send dollars to Germany for the purpose of rebuilding the old Nazi machine that once before dominated Ger man economy. “In short, our complaint about this exposition is based on the still existing Nazi taint of the German firms that will benefit, and concerns individuals like von Strempel who are climbing back to power in Germany. General Clay’s ‘assurance’ are limited to the hired men who are to come here as fronts and do not touch the real culprits whose presence in the background makes the whole idea of this ex position repugnant to patriotic Americans.” $3.00 A YEAR
