Friday, February 17, 1950 • Valdosta, Ga. Jewish Center Gives Stained Glass Window to Church Being Built By Congregation FITCHBURG, MASS.—Six stained glass windows and a pair of matched oak outside doors, which had originally been part of a Universalist Church here, will now be added to the Seventh Day Adventist Church as a gift by the Jewish Community Center, accord ing to Stanley A. Schorr, the Jewish Center director.- The new Seventh Day Advent ist Church is being built by mem bers of its congregation. When Leslie R. Abell, the Church treas urer, was called in to do some carpentry work at the Jewish Community Center, he mentioned his church’s project to members of the Center. The doors and windows, left over after the Cen ter building had been remodeled from the Universalist Church, were presented to the Seventh Day Adventists by the Center’s Board of Directors. As the nation prepares for the observance of Brotherhood Week from February 19-26, sponsored by the National Conference of Christians and Jews, the gift of the Fitchburg Jewish community becomes symbolical of the co operation and understanding ex isting among religious groups in American life. 'Ashley St. Phone Valdosta, Gs. 2211 Washington's Birthday On Washington’s birthday, an American’s thoughts turn natur ally to the foundations of our re public and to the great work wrought by the Founding Fathers. Throughout a large part of to day’s world people cower in ter ror of , secret police, political judges, and summary “justice”. A few words laid end to end in the “wrong” order may cost a man his head; a political misstep can wipe out a whole village. We Americans enjoy the price less protections of due process of law. Our Fathers had the wisdom’ to guarantee us “certain inalien able rights”, and to root these rights in the equal creation of all men by the unchangeable God. “All men are created equal”, they said, and “are endowed by their creator with certain inalien able Rights, (and) among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness”. If this be not true—wholly and entirely literally true —our liber ties rest indeed on shifting sands. Let us remember this during Brotfierhood Week (Feb. 19-26). Remember it! Practice it! THE SOUTHERN JEWISH WEEKLY INSIDE ISRAEL Don’t be surprised to see Golda Myerson soon in the post of Deputy Premier of Israel . . . Her post as Minister of Labor may be taken over by a member of the left-wing Socialist Mapam party, should the Mapam decide to join the Cabinet . . . otherwise her present post will be given to Da vid Remez, the present Commun ications Minister ... In the forth coming Cabinet reshuffle, the Ministry of Social Service will be abolished, since there is dissat isfaction with Rabbi I. M. Lewin, who heads it . . . Its functions will be absorbed between the Minis tries of Justice and Labor ... A definite change is noticeable in the strength of the various politi cal parties in Israel now, a year after the parliamentary elections . . . White collar and industrial workers, all of whom grumble over wage cuts, are in part drift ing toward the Mapam and Herut groups ... It is believed that the Herut might poll 80,000 votes now, as compared with the 49,000 it received in the elections last year . . . The Progressive Party has dwindled greatly during the year . . . The Orthodox groups have probably gained a certain following since there is, no doubt, a return to religion, even if not to medieval observances . . . The strength of the various parties may be reflected in the coming municipal elections ... It is con sidered quite unlikely that, under the new municipal law, the center parties will obtain a majority anywhere, particularly not in Tel Aviv . . . The parties now in power in most areas—either the middle-of-the-road parties or the Mapai—may not regain their seats ... As matters look, the Mapai can maintain municipal control only if it establishes a common front with the Mapam.
