Tri-Cities Blackhawks in the Na
tional Basketball Association.
Don’t look for Tri-Cities in your
geography books—you won’t find
such a spot. Actually, three cities,
Moline, 111., Rock Island, 111., and
Davenport, la., form a juncture
known as the Tri-Cities, and are
represented in basketball’s major
league.
Kerner hails from Buffalo,
where he is in the printing and
advertising business, and is in
partnership with Leo Farris, who
happens to be principal stock
holder of the Syracuse Nationals

boys started their basketball pro
motions in their home city, Buf
falo, where they installed a team
in the National League. After los
ing about $35,000 in eight weeks,
these two young master minds of
the “hardwood” flew out to the
Tri-Cities, and moved their fran
chise there, arranging to play
their games in an Armory.
Their start was a rocky one,
and, it wasn’t until close to the
end of their first season that the
boys began to get a break. At
tendance picked up, and the city
was won over to big-time basket
ball. Kerner has a terrific flair
for promotion and thinks a day
is lost if he doesn’t break a story
or pull a trick that gains the
Blackhawks or himself a measure
of notoriety. After pulling several
stunts which stimulated the audi
ence and which began to give the
club a regular attendance, Kern
er bought out Ferris’ interest, and
Ferris in turn bought into the

of the wildest sort in basketball.
As a matter of fact, they reveal
when they can pull off a deal or
trade which might be a loss to
either one.
Although such cities as Boston,
Philadelphia and Washington are
in the League, little Tri-Cities
manages to draw more patrons
to their games than any of these
and rates just below New York,
Minneapolis, Syracuse and Ro
chester in over-all attendance and
profits during the past three
years.
