JWB Hospital Kits Ease Pain
of Wounded, Chaplain Reports
“The box of hospital kits you
sent has just arrived. The jubila
tion it caused in the 4th Field
Hospital, Korea, crowded with
casualties and operating on a
twenty-four hour basis, was won
derful to observe.”
, This was how Chaplain Oscar
M. Lifshutz, writing from Korea
to the San Francisco office of the
National Jewish Welfare Board
(JWB), described the joy of the
wounded men on receiving the
kits provided by a group of wo
men in Brooklyn, N. Y., affiliated
with JWB’s Women’s Organiza
tions’ Division. Similar kits, pro
vided by 15 other JWB-affiliated
units, are being sent to Korea
through the San Francisco JWB
office. All of these kits are disr
tributed to Gls without regard to
race, creed or color.
“When I tell a boy lying con
torted with pain,” Chaplain Lif
shutz wrote, “son, this parcel is
lor you, they look up in amaze
ment and ask, ‘For me?’, and I as
sure them that it is. Then they
smile and forget their pain mo
mentarily as they fondly look at
each item and tuck it under the
blanket."
