A column devoted to you, the readers of the Phoenix Jewish News. We hope to share with you your own news ahd sim chas . . . We also want to com ment on the stimulating events that are taking place in our town. We bone never to ridicule or judge, but to have a little fun. and to let you know about your friends and special events you won’t want to miss. Chanukah was really celebrated in Phoenix with many festive home parties and school parties. Congre gations held memorable celebra tions which were new for Phoenix. A most outstanding program was given by Beth El Congregation de voted to Chanukah music. We are proud of our splendid musical and dramatic talent in Phoenix. A novel note for Chanukah —a “Latke and Cocktail Party”—was given by the Larry Kaufmans, which is quite a hew idea for lat kas. We had only been familiar with the apple sauce on our sour cream accompliment —sounds like more status for the latka this way! We want to mention here about Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Bank, who are beihg honored by Hadassah through the .newlv constructed Medical Center in Israel. Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Bank were Phoenix pioneers in bringing Zionism to us and have worked diligently all their lives in helping Israel to be come the fine country it is today. We are all sad that Dr. Bank is ill and want him to know how much we appreciate, honor, and are grateful to him for paving the way for us all to work for so wor thy a cause. If you would like to be part of this tribute, please send your greetings and donations to Mrs. M. B. Goldmah, Jr., Chair man of the Hadassah Medical Cen ter, 528 West Granada, Phoenix. Our very best wishes are sent to Mr. and Mrs. Si Balkin in their new home. The Balkins are here about two years from Rochester, New York. Mr. Balkin, a fine artist, has made all his own furniture, which is truly a “work of art.” Best of luck and glad you are with us fn Phoenix. They tell me that now’s the time to make New Year’s Resolutions . They also tell me that they are broken the week after . . . But I hope we will all resolve to be good Jews always. That is—to be responsible for one another and to take part in community activity and to know we are one with Jews all over the world. The UJA ac tivities will begin soon and, like Abou Ben Adam ... try and have your name lead all the rest. It’s been a real pleasure sharing our thoughts with you.
