Loute Price, of Jacksonville, is vis iting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. B. Price, of Palatka Heights. He has just recently been discharged from the navy. He was first assigned to the Charleston navy yard, and later transferred to the U. S. S. Hart ford, and then to U. S. S. Jonetto. They cruised the Atlantic and Cuban waters. While at target practice off the Cuban coast, he was awarded seventy- two hours shore leave for making five successive direct hits, as a gunnner. Mx. Price will return to Jacksonville Sunday, and resume his duties with the Jacksonville Gas Com pany i Mr. and Mrs. Willis Surles, of Kenwood, were in Palatka this morn ing. Mr. and Mrs. Surles are mak ing the final preparations to move to Rodman where they will make their future home. The Civics Department of the Wo man's Club adjourned their meeting yesterday afternoon on acount of the death of Mrs. Naomi Gridley, who w;n ba in anv v. as a member, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence A, Gridley, of Augusta, Ga., will arrive todya, having 'been called here by the death of Mr. Gridley's mother, Mrs. Naomi Gridley. Mb. and Mrs. John Weeks, of Flo rahame, were visitors here yesterday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. E. E. White left this morning for St. Augustine, after a visit of several days with Mr. White's parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. F. White, on Kirby street After a short stay in St. Augustine they will go to Day tuna where they will make their fu ture home. Miss Winniired Burstow who has been the guest of her sister, Mrs. Albert Martin, in Apopka for several weeks will return this afternoon. Many people paid no attention to it, thinking it was cloudy. A strange phenomena conected with the eclijpse was the evident fright of game birds Those who went hunt ing said they could find neither quail or doves. AUie Pox, who, during the hunting season, spends the time between his rising hour and work hour at The News office, went out with his oil flint lock this morning for a messof quail and after wading around an hour in the marshes of the St. Johns discovered that the birds had all hid den away.
