V"5 7 - y" -- - ' i if ' -J iff i mniuiruHLLauiii k" ALL CITIZENS TO CLEAN rui Designating October 17, Monday, as the date for beginning a clean up period Mayor H. M. Fearnside yes terday issued a proclamation to the citizens of Palatka asking that they do everything possible to put their premises in good order in time for the big Armistice Day celebration. The Woman's Club is taking an active interest in this campaign, which will extend over a period of three' weeks, and it is expeeted to put Palatka in better condition thanj it has been in years. Following is i the Mayor's proclamation: WHEREAS; It has been the cus tom for some time past for the moyor to issue a proclamation for a clean up campaign each spring and fall, and WHEREAS, no city can become or remain beautiful save where the citizens take great pride in keeping their homes painted and in good re- j pair, keeping their lawns clean and Retting nnt flnwprs nnrl fthrnhs. flonn. I ing up back yards and vacant lots, and WHEREAS, Bert Hodge Post of the American Legion is planning a big celebration for Armistice Day, at which time hundreds of visitors will be in our midst. THEREFORE, I, Henry M. Fearn side, by the power vested in me as mayor of the city of Palatka, do set aside three weeks, . beginning with Monday, October 17, to be known as clean-up-weeks. I issue this procla mation at the request of the Civic Committee of the Womans Club and the Ward Civic Committee of the en tire city. I beg of all citizens to make every effort", to clean up their resi dence and business property during the time specified. Let eaoch and every one of us do our bit toward making our city beautiful. We can accomplish this by planting flowers and lawns and by improving the lawns we have. And I specially ask I nibll bDLD DOWN FIGHTING TO STAY BATTLE TIDE Before a large and enthusiastic crowd at the baseball park yester day afternoon the Putnam High School made its debut in high school football in Florida by being defeated by Marion High of Ocala by the score of 26 to 0. Suffering from a slight attack of stage fright in the first half when the boys of Marion coun ty carried the ball over for - four touchdowns anl kicked two goals out of four tries, the local High School, after a ten minute rest . be tween halves and a curtain lecture from their coaches, came back in the second half and played Ocala to a standstill,, neither side being able to carry the ball across the goal line for a score during these two periods. Repeatedly in the second half Put nam High held their opponents for downs, and after a few short gains through the lnie, Jarrett for the lo cals punted to Smith of the Brick City, who fumbled and in the scram ble after the ball an orange jersey was in possession of it. Smith Was .Ocala Star Ocala used nothing but end runs with Smith, their fullback, aided by good interference, carrying the ball. He proved to be the stellar light for the Marion county aggregation, but he was materially aided in his ground gaining by th" eexcellent interference of Quarterback Williams and Half backs Hall and Rawls. The orange and black line of the locals held like a stone wall during the second half. The local boys show ed lack of experience in tackling and rushing forward to break up plays, as well as good interference but game these faults 'can be corrected by next week, when they meet the Springfield Athletic Club of Jack- sonville,"hnd there will be a different story to tell. The locals will have gotten over stage fright and will have acquired the true college fight ing spirit to carry them to victory. Stars For Putnam For the Putnam High, Knight and Dressier proved to be the best ground gainers, while Sibert, Cassels, Moaely and Peterson were Btrong on defense and repeatedly spilled the man car rying th eball for a loss. Jarrett, who played most of the game B3 quarterback, got away several punts tp his credit during the second half, which materially aided in keeping the Marion county lads from scoring.
