George Ed Varen, soloist, sang ‘‘O Perfect j^jJe" by Bamby. The traditional wedding marches were rendered. The ushers were Charles W. Michael, Jr and George Van Bib ber, of Eel Air, Md.. Beverly Biggs, of Lumberton. and W. Henry De Yane. of Raleigh, brother of the bride. The bridegroom was attend ed hv Edward C. Wilson, Jr., of Dar lington, Md.. as best man. Miss Dorothy Clark attended the bride as maid of honor. She wore a faille taffeta gown of grape rose, with sweetheart neckline, bouffant r jrt and short puffed sleeves. She carried an arm bouquet of deep lav ender chrysanthemums, and her headdress was a cluster of contrast in: ostrich tips with ribbon match in: her dress. The bridesmaids were Misses Sarah Elliott and Cramer Pereival, in gold faille taffeta gowns, and Misses Peggy Mocre and Lucy Oliver, in autumn green faille taffe ta. Clusters of ostrich tips were worn on their hair, and their flow ers were arm bouquets of chrysan taemums. All the bride’s attendants lore silver bracelets, which were p:esented them by the bride. The bride entered the church with her father, Raymond Stuart DeVane, by whom she was given in marriage. She wore a handsome duchess satin wedding gown, styled by Emily, with sweetheart neckline. The long sleeves were full, and puffed at the shoulder, with tiny covered buttons fnnrv. rl,a + ■full skirt extended into a long court train. Her full length veil of illusion fell from a coronet of pearlized orange blossoms, and she wore a lace veil. The bride's bouquet was of gardenias and valley lilies center ed with a white orchid. She wore a strand of pearls, the gift of the bride groom. Following the ceremony Mr. and Mrs. DeVane entertained at a recep tion in their home on Hay street. The home was effectively decorated with autumn flowers and burning white tapers. •Mr. and .Mrs. Marsden deRosset introduced the guests to the receiv ing line, which was composed of Mr. and Mrs. DeVane and Mr. and Mrs. John Nicholas Wilkinson, Sr., of llarye de Grace, Md., parents of the bridal pair, the bride and bridegroom and members of the wedding party. Ketchum bn her sixtieth birthday. The living room and dining room were decorated with cut flowers. The honoree received many lovely gifts. New Sorority Entertains At Banquet Here Beta Sigma Phi Is Organized, Initiation Ceremonies Held Friday Evening The Chi pf North Carolina chap ter of Beta Sigma Phi international sorority held the formal initiation and banquet on Friday evening at 7:30 o’clock in the ptivate dining room of the Hotel Capo Fear. The organization of this local chapter was under the direction of Miss Clyde Willis, of Jacksonville, Fla., international, iieia executive of tne sorority, who has been in the city for the past week. The banquet table was beautifully decorated and ceqjered with a black bowl filled with Golden Charm roses and burning yellow tapers. Attrac tive favors and placecards carrying out the sorority colorr were used. Following the dinner officers of the chapter were elected as follows: Sponsor, Mrs. H. M. Roland;' di rector, Mrs. C. R. Davis, Jr.; presi dent, Miss Miriam Mclntire; vice president, Miss Vee Vee Allen; re cording secretary, Miss Jane Ellen Baldwin; corresponding secretary, Miss Ruth Pigford; treasurer, Miss Alice Loughlin; historian, Miss Bet sy Stokley; program chairman, Miss Thelma Johnson; publicity chairman, Miss Margaret Henry. Other pledges were Misses Esther Austin, Alma Blake, Lottie Bradley, Frances Coughenour, Mary Ethel Howell, Elizabeth Morris, Mary B. Sell and Mary Todd. Miss Willis made an address of welcome to the pledges into- the sorority and Miss Jane Ellen Bald win made the response. Miss Willis also read a toast from the Lamba chapter in Jacksonville, Fla., fol lowed by the initiation conducted by Miss W7illis, who was assisted by Miss Vee Vee Allen and Miss Esther Austin. Definite arrangements as to the dates of the meetings to be held will be announced later. The motto of the sorority is Life, Learning and Friendship and its theme is The Art of Living. The first convention of the Caro linas will be held in Charlotte on November 9 and 10 with headquar ters at the Hotel Charlotte. The Iotas of Charlotte and the Thetas of Gastonia have been selected as co-hostesses to the convention. * * * MRS. GALLOWAY, RECENT BRIDE, IS ENTERTAINED WINNABOW, Oct. 26.—The colon ial residence of Mrs. Lindsay Walk er at Town Creek was the scene of a lovely party Wednesday afternoon when Mrs. Walker and Mrs. Alice Walker Craven entertained in honor of their granddaughter and niece. Mrs. Carl Galloway nee Miss I-Iancy C. Williams. Thirty-five guests were received in the spacious home and a delectable salad course was served proceeding an hour of entertainment. Mrs. Gal loway was presented many beauti ful gifts by the guests. At the early age of 18 he entered the Con- C tinental Army and faithfully served r his country through her struggle £ for Independence, being promoted to £ the rank of lieutenant. He was the t youngest officer on the staff of General George Washington. He ; married Sarah Peebles and settled on ; the Coharie river in Sampson coun- ' ty. After a program in the auditorium the au dience will go to the basement where there will be lots of Hallowe’en fun games, fish pond, spook house, for tune telling, ducking for apples, etc. Ice cream, candy, and drinks will be sold.
