guilty and were assessed costs for
failure to stop while a high school
bus was discharging students yes
terday afternoon on Market street.
Five dollar fines were remitted.
The three motorists were cited by
Sgt. J. R. Smith of the state high
way patrol, who related to the court
that each of the defendants had
continued past his halted patrol car
—halted while the bus was unload
ing.
In remitting tjie fines, Lennon
emphasized that the bus-stop law
requires motorists to bring their
vehicles to a full stop, regardless
of direction of travel, until the bus
has moved on.
“Most people are under the im
pression that the stop-law means
stepping only when behind a school
bus,” Lennon said. "The law, how
ever, has been defined by the state
supreme court to mean that motor
ists both following and approaching
a school bus must stop when the
bus halts.”
