Andrew H. Harriss, Jr. (Continued from Page Eleven) of Kappa Delta sorority. She is employed by the U. S. Government. Miss Wright’s ensemble was white chiffon with lace bodice and she carried an arm bouquet of white orchids and anthuriums Miss Ma rie LaTourette Cook of Washing ton. D. C., attended the bride as maid-of-honor. Her gown' was hy acinth blue chiffon and her arm bouquet was of yellow orchids. Col. Harriss is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Andrew Howell Harriss, Wilmington, N. C., and attended Washington and Lee university. He is a member of Sigma Alpha Ep silon fraternity. In 1940 Col. Har riss was a captain with the 252nd C. A. National1 Guard regiment of North Carolina, which is now a part of the flfrny of the United States. He was on the regimental staff in the capacity of plans and training officer. On Feb. 20, 1941, Col. Harriss was promoted to ma jor and later given commanf of the 3rd Battalion. Feb. 1, 1942, he was promoted to his present rank and arrived at Trihidad with his battalion May 9, 1942. He was lat er placed on detached service with Harbor Defense headquarters as executive officer. During the latter part of 1942, he was returned to the regimental staff as regimental executive. At present he is regi mental executive and harbor de fense executive. In civilian life he held an official position with the purchasing department of the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad com pany, Wilmington, N. C. Col. Har riss is a Past Master of St. Johns’ Lodge No. 1, A. F. and A. M. (North Carolina), Past Commodore of Carolina Yacht club, and a member of St. James’ Episcopal church, Wilmington, N. C. • Colonel Robert Banks Lewis, commanding officer of the 252nd C.A. served as best man. The bride was given in marriage by Lieut. Col. Sumner W. Elton, Judge Advocate Generals Dept. Chaplain (Capt.) Walter L. Jewett performed the ceremony. Approp riate wedding music was played during the ceremony by Lieut. Howard O. Reese, Coast Artillery Corps, formerly with the Seventh Regiment, New York National Guard. . Following the ceremony, which was attended by a host of friends, a small reception was held at St. Clair Officers’ club. Music for the reception was furnished by the Coast Artillery band. Townsend sang “I Love You Truly” and "Be cause.” Little Miss Bet*v Jane Anderson, wearing a whi*^ organza dress, held a white satin ribbon marking an isle as the bride and bride groom entered together from the hall. The couple stood for the vows in the music room before a beau tifully decorated mantle. A row of lighted white tapers stood on the mantle; palms were banked be fore it with a large basket of white gladioli on each side. White gladioli and white daisies were used in decorations throughout the home. The bride was attractive in a blue afternoon dress of marqui sette and wore an orchid. She graduated from Lumberton High school, attended the Woman’s col lege of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and has held a position here as stenogra pher to W. K.xBethune. The bridegmom is the son of Mrs. W. L. Wewton of Prospect Hill. He graduated from Mebane High school and attended N. C. State college in Raleigh. Following the ceremony the bride’s father and stepmother, who wore a pink embroidered gown, and a corsage of pink roses, entertained at a cake-cutting at the home. White summer flowers and four lighted white tapers formed the centerpiece for the dining table, where the three-tiered, white-iced cake topped with a miniature wed ding couple stood. Mrs. J. B. An derson, Jr., presided at the punch bowl, and Mrs. A. J. Brinson and Miss Pauline Burney assisted in entertaining. The approximately 25 guests at the wedding. The bride and bridegroom left after the cake-cutting for a wed ding trip to' western North Caro lina. After July 12 they will be at home in Lumberton, as Mr. Newton is to be transferred here from Burlington. Out-of-town guests at the wed ding were Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Meness of Charlotte, Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Malone of Prospect Hill, brother-in-law and sister of the bridegroom, and their daughter, Hilda. W. K. Bethune was host at a dinner party Friday evening at the Lorraine hotel honoring the bridal party. Places were laid for ten at a ta ble attractive with a center-piece of mixed flowers. Arrangements of Picardy gladioli were also used in tne dining room. Those present besides the bride ard bridegroom were, Mrs. J. B. Anderson, Jr., and daughter, Bet ty Jane; Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Bur ney Mrs. M. F.
