County Council Of Home Clubs Meets Tuesday The New Hanover County Coun cil of Home Demonstration clubs will meet for their regular fall meeting on Tuesday morning Oc tober 3, at 10 o’clock in the Home Agent’s office. Mrs. M. S. Emmart, p. esident will have charge of the , meeting. Reports of delegates attending | the state federation meeting in j August will be heard. Plans fw j the Achievement Day to be held in November will be made. All Officers of local Home Dem onstration clubs are urged to be present and War Service chairman are also asked to attend. Meets Scheduled During October GREENSBORO, Sept. 30. — Mrs. Charles E. Roe, field representa tive of the National Congress of Parents and Teachers, will repre sent that body at the 18 district meetings of the North Carolina con gress which start October 10 and will be concluded November 3. Also attending all 18 meetings, scattered from Plymouth in t h e east to Bryson City in the west,! will be C. W. Phillips, Greensboro, airectof of public relations at the! Woman’s college, and state presi dent, and Mrs. J. W. Burke, Gib-1 sonville, executive secretary of the state congress. Mrs. Roe, who has been on the lational staff since 1924, following i wide background in local and state parent-teacher work, has giv ;n field service in every state in he Union in developing state par ;nt-teacher work, in the interest )f local parent - teacher associ ions. At the 18 district confer ;nces she will discuss parent eacher procedures and mechanics. Phillips will present the chal enge and the philosophy of par :nt-teacher work and Mrs. Burke vil discuss the materials and oth >r aids available through the state jffice. Each group will also con-' :ider the legislative program of the1 irganization, and will hear from leveral state chairmen about the ;hases of the work they direct. MacKinnon of Mount Pleasant, Texas, have announced the engagement and ap proaching marraige of their daugh ter, Betty, to Ensign Ralph D. Matthews, Jr., of Wilmington, son of Mrs. Leona Matthews bf Wil mington. Ensign Matthews is now station ed at the Naval Air Station at Jacksonville, Fla. Miss MacKinnon attended South ern Methodist University and Lou isiana State university, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. The wedding is to take place on October 9, at Mount Pleasant. * * * Magabel Smith Rule, J. F. Bradshaw Married BURGAW, Sept. 30. — Magabel Smith Rule, daughter of R. D. Smith of Currie, and J. F. Brad shaw of Burgaw, were married on September 23 at Conway, S. C Mrs. Rule for the past several years has made her home with her father, moving to Currie from Washington, D. C., where she lived for 12 years. She received ner ed ucation at the Bladen and New Hanover County schools, and at tended Motte’s business college in Wilmington. Mr. Bradshaw is a wholesale gasoline and fuel oil dealer in Bur gaw, chairman of the Pender coun ty Office of Price Administration, and a member of the Pender coun ty board of commissioners. The couple will make their home in Burgaw. • • • Miss Alma Dew Feted At Party In Hallsboro HALLSBORO,, Sept. 30. — Thurs day night, September 21, Miss Al ma Dew, bride-elect of the season, was entertained- at a miscellane ous shower given by Miss Louise Collins, Mrs. Harrell Stephens, and Mrs. Malcolm Stephens at the home of Miss Collins in Hallsboro. Guests were greeted by Mrs. A. Q. Dew and upon her entrance Miss De wwas presented with a corsage of sweetheart roses. Contest winners were Mrs. Rob ert L. Thompson and Mrs. W. Av ery Thompson. Chadbourn Faculty Members Feted At Tea CHADBOURN, Sept. 30.—Honor ing the members of the Chadbourn School faculty, the Ren. and Mrs. B. F. Ormand entertained at an informal tea Thursday afternoon from 5 to 6 o’clock. Mrs. G. B. Walton and Mrs. F. T. Wooten greeted the guests at the front door, while Mr. and Mrs. Ormand welcomed them in the living room, they were assisted here by Mrs. A. B. Brady and Mrs. D. C. Clark. In the dining room, Mrs. J. A. Brown presided at the punch bowl, and Mrs J. H. Land and Mrs. C. L. Tate served a variety of dainty sandwiches, cookies, cakes, nuts, and mints. The lace covered table was cen tered with an artistic arrange ment of pink asters and fern, flank ed by lighted candles. A bowl of asters graced the sideboard. In the living room fall flowers were effectively used in decora tion. About twenty - five faculty mem bers enjoyed the gracious hospital5 ity of the host and hostess. Featuring the September meet ing of the Maids-and-Matrons club was the unusual program. This was conducted as an Open Forum on the Influence of Movies, Comics Funnies and Radio on the Cultural , Life of the Youth of America. The program was introduced by Miss Maysie Hendren, program chair man, and the leaders of the dis cussion were Mrs. J. H Land, Mrs J. B. Bardin and Mrs. Bishop Smitl Thought provoking suggestions were advanced and much construe tive criticism resulted. A large pel cent of the membership took en thusiastic part in the informal dis cussions. The general topic for the yea: is: “For Improved Citizenship o the Youth of America.” At roll call, the members an swered with "My favorite rauu program”. A business meeting preceded thi program, at which time Mrs. J. A Brown, club president, welcome! the membership and Drought t< them the challenge of the nev club year. She gave excerpts fron the messages of the new Genera Federation president, Mrs. La Fel Dickinson, in which she called thi club women of America to sires consultation, cooperation, kindnes; effort, and to make as their speda and tolerance to continue the wa: endeavor creating homes ’iron which wili eminate in the post-wa: world serenity, justice, discipline and an awareness of the Brother hood of Man and Fatherhood o I God”. Mrs. Brown also gave sug gestions from messages of thi State Federation president, Mrs J. H.
