L. Benson. The ballots are returnable on or before June 4 to H. G. Carney, chairman of the County Board of Elections. The canvass of votes will ba held at the Wrightsville town hall at noon June 4. The candidate receiving the greatest number of votes will be recommended for the mayorship to Gov. R. Gregg Cherry, and aldermen will be the next four with the highest votes. The eight who have filed for seats on the resort’s Board of Aldermen include three incum bents. The filing deadline is sun down today. Candidates are Dr. Sidney V. Allen, freeholder; W. B. Russell Wood, freeholder and legal resi dent. -V STATE HIGHWAY CONTRACTS LET Two contracts, involving a total of $187,542, have been awarded by the State Highway commission for highway resurfacing projects in New Hanover and Brunswick coun ties, it was announced yesterday by R. A. Ashworth, resident high way engineer. The construction firm of F. D. Cline, of Raleigh, was awarded a $84,188 contract to resurface a six mile portion of the Carolina Beach highway, U. S. 421. from Wilming ton’s city limits to Spindle’s place; and to pave one and one-half miles of U. S. 17 highway from Smith’s creek bridge to the first turn-off to Bluethenthal airfield. The Dickinson Construction Co., of Monroe, with a proposal of $103, 356, received the contract to pave a 7-mile stretch of U. S. Highway 177 in Brunswick county, from Bell Swamp to Grissettown. Ashworth said traffic would bs maintained throughout work on both projects. E. B.
