Elliott, City County Health Officer to discuss possible olutions for the problem of drain ? g the surface water standing on the grounds of the Winter Park school. Seepage into the basement and cafeteria of the school have neces sitated pumping out of the latter. The possibility of surface drain age of the water was talked over. Row land. ___ Banking Subcommittee Gives Bill OK On Vote WASHINGTON, Sept. 13.—W— The controversial “full employ ment” bill was reported favorably bv a Senate Banking subcommit tee today after a futile effort to modify its spending commitments. Senator Taft (R.-Ohio) announc | ed the attempt to amend the bill will be resumed when the full com mittee meets Tuesday. The subcommittee was divided {ive to five on amendments de signed principally to deemphasize the idea of relying heavily on fed eral spending to counteract unem ployment^_ Gunboat Williamsburg New President Yacht WASHINGTON, Sept. 13. — UP)— A 245-foot gunboat, the Williams burg, will become the presidential yacht late in October or early No vember. The White House disclosed today that the old presidential vessel, the Potomac, had been condemned as unseawor'.hy. Now undergoing general over haul at the Norfolk Navy yard, the Williamsburg originally a yacht, I was build in 1931 for U. J. Chis holm of New York City. The Friday night service will be gin at 8 o’clock and the Saturday morning service at 11 o’clock. Rabbi M. M. Thurman will preach at both services. Bark Of Dogs Uncovers Death Of Texas Boy AMARILLO, Tex., Sept. 13.—UP) —The moans of two pet dogs led searchers to a puddle of asphalt early today, where blond-haired three-year-old James Pearson was found dead. The boy was half-buried in the asphalt, waste from a nearby plant. The two dogs were also caught in the asphalt. Officers said James apparently had tried to wade through the muck, which is liquid in warm weather but had soldified to the consistency of tar last night. -- I Decision On Freight Increase Expected RALEIGH, N. C., Sept. 13.—(ff) —A hearing on the application of the Interstate Franchise Freight Carriers Association asking for a flat increase of 10 per cent in hauling rates is being held here by the State Utilities Commission. The commission’s decision on the request is expected to be hand ed down within a few days. PROWLER PROWLS Mr. O’Crowley, owner of the O’Crowley Cleaners at Eighth and Princess streets, told the police today that there was a prowler on the roof of his place of business Wendesday night, and that this is the sec ond time it has happened re cently. COUNCIL TO MEET The County Council of the Home Demonstration Clubs will meet at the home agent’s of fice, in the Custom house on Tuesday morning at 10 o’clock with Mrs. M. S. Avera, man ager of the Wilmington Social Security Board, talk on ‘‘Two Time for Action,” today which covers benefit rights when the age of 65 is reached and “Freezing” the benefit if aver age monthly wage is dropped after the age of 65. Also the relatives should inquire at once to the social security board in case of death of the worker. Chaplain Husted of Bluenthenthal Air Base will be guest speaker at the meeting. Dorothy Lamour Stalls Man Until Police Come SAN BERNARDINO. Calif., Sept. 13.—tJT—Dorothy Lrmour related today that she stalled off an in truder in her home for If minutes yesterday until police could arrive to arrest him. Clad in dungarees, shirt and dark glasses that made her un recognizable to the stranger, the actress said, she told the caller that Miss Lamour was not at home. She said she excused herself and telephoned her husband, Maj or William Ross Howard III, who arrived shortly with police.
