E “The Wilmington office has not E yet been notified of the issuance ~ of an amendment concerning ejc E emption of beach properties for the E summer of 1946,” the director de E dared, adding that “amendments Z limited to one year effectiveness, = were issued in the spring of 1944 E and 1945, each providing for ex Z emption, during June, July, Au Z gust, and'September, of those ac Z commodations which were cus E tomarily rented or occupied on a E seasonal basis. 5 “Each of the amendments,” he Z continued, “was qualified, how E ever, by a provisio that the accom E modation ' was not rented during E any portion of the period com = mencing Nov. 1, 1943, and ending E Feb. 29, 1944.” E Moore said he was not in posi E tion to state whether any amend E ment issued this year might ex E elude the qualification of rental E vacancy during the 1943-44 winter E season. = He emphasized, however, that E any information received in the E local office regarding changes in E rental status would immediately = be given full publicity in order that = confusion and violations be avoid EE ed. _ IT HAPPENED HERE That life begins at 40 was given material evidence yes terday morning in the post office lobby. .Standing alone in the center of the floor, with a look of bewilderment-, was a little old lady—possibly 75, or older. As she glanced around, her bewilderment seemed to turn to fright. Peeking from behind a column post, near the stairway leading to the second floor, was another old lady of possibly the same age. “Booh”, she exclaimed as she stepped into the open. “Couldn’t you find me?” she asked her friend. The hewilderment left the face of the first woman as they both laughed. “Hide-and-go-seek and at opr age,” both exclaimed. Negro Sawmill Worker \ Cut In Half By Blade LUMBERTON, Feb. 16.—Grady Carmichael, 25-year-old Negro, was killed instantly yesterday at a Pur vis sawmill operated by Pates Supply company when he acci dentally was thrown into a cir cular-saw blade. Witnesses said the accident oc curred when Carmichael’s sleeve became entangled in the saw’s blade and drew him into it, cutting him in half. Man Held in Jail Here On Charges Of Bigamy Filed By Father-In-Law James M. Boone was being held in jail last night under bond set at $1000 for appearance in Record er’s court tomorrow to face ' charges of bigamy lodged against him by in a complaint signed by B. F. Barnhill, Peachtree street, Winter Park. Boone was returned to Wilming ton Friday by Deputy Sheriff Charles Snow who arrested him in Gastonia. According to the sheriff’s report, Boone married Mary Frances Barnhill, Peachtree street, Wil mington, and took her to Spar tanburg, S. C. He later left her and went to Gastonia to visit a woman to whom, the complaint al leges, he was also married.
