Janu ary corn was bought throughout the day at ceiling prices on orders which came mainly from commis sion houses with connections in the east. Oats, weak early on continued favorable crop reports, firmed late in the session and 1. aved ahead' of the previous close on short-cover ing. For the eleven'-' consecutive session May rye closed 5 cents lower, again setting a new board record for continuous daily limit declines. Wheat closed unchanged at ceil ings, August $1,98 1-2, new corn contracts were 4 3-8-5 cents higher, January $1.46 1-2, cats were un changed to 1-2 higher, August 83 5-8, and May rye finished at $2.27 3-8. Failure of the March corn con tract to hold at ceilings was a sur prise to some traders, who had ex pected the new yellow grain con tracts to advance to maximums and then remain there. Cash corn offerings by the country were light, purchases amounting to only 10.000 bushels. More than half the contemplated corn seeding in Iowa is completed, a brokerage house survey disclosed.
