S. Department of Agri culture reported that gross sales of the Georgia-Florida blue-cured tobacco markets for Tuesday, Aug. 20, amounted to 1,448,520 pounds. Sales averaged $27.85 per hun dred pounds, a decrease of $3.04 from the general-average for the previous day. The season’s sales to date totaled 142,907,391 pounds at an average of $34.82. On Tuesday the Blackshear mar ket cleared its warehouse floors for the first time this season. The Tifton market, which cleared its i floors Monday, reported blocked sales a^ain. Census figures reveal that of the 37,600,000 families in the Unit ed States, 10,459,000, or 28 per cent, consist of only two persons. MT. Scheldt Moves Up NEW ORLEANS, .mg. 21 —</P)— The Federal Bureau of investiga tion announced Wednesday that Edward S c h e i d t, 43-year-old former administrative assistant to FBI Chief J. Edgar Hoover, had been designated as special agent in charge of the bureau’s New York City office. He replaces E. E. Conroy, who has been placed on indefinite leave of absence due to the recur rence of an ailment contracted during World War I, the FBI said. For the past nine years Scheidt has been special agent in charge of the FBI’s Charlotte, N. C., of fice. The flag of the United States was fixed except for the disposi tion of the white stars in 1818. “THE LAST DAY” ON WMFD TODAY Play Will Be Second In “Red Feather Man” Radio Series The king of heartache that a tiny victim of rheumatic heart disease can give a social case worker is shown in “The Last Day,” the sec ond program in the transcribed radio series, “Adventures of the Red Feather Man,” heard this morning at 10:45 over WMFD. Starring John Gibson, as the Red Feather Man, 10-year-old Lois Volkman as Martha, heart disease victim, and Vicki Vola as Miss Parker, the case warker, “The Last Day’> is the story of Martha’s de termination to go back home to her Daddy from the hospital. Lois played with Gertrude Law rence in “Lady in the Dark” for two years on Broadway, and then appeared with Billie Burke in “This Rock.” She also played with the road company in “Tomorrow the World,” and has played on several hundred radio shows, including “We, The People,” “Hobby Lob by,” “Road of Life,” and “Hall of Fame.” Miss Vola is currently ap pearing in “Mr. District Attorney,” on the "Radio Readers’ Digest,” and is the fashion commentator for Universal Newsreel. Lon Clark, who played Dr. An drews and Mr. Donnelli, is sur rently on the air in “Mommie and the Men” and “Nick Carter” in the title role. Bill Zuckert, the policeman, recently was discharg ed from the Seabees and has since played in “The Falcon,” “Danny Kaye Show” and “Mr. Keane, Tracer of Lost Persons.” Also in the cast are Richard Leoni, Mack Twamley and John Grinnel as young boys, and Michael Chimes who plays the harmonica. (BelkMUaiM &. Dedication Plans Officials of the Carolina Beach Presbyterian church announced yesterday that apropriate dedica tion ceremonies will be held at the church Sunday morning. The corner-stone of the $13,000 building was laid last December with the Rev. William Crowe, Jr., pastor of the First Presbyterian church in Wilmington officiating. The church was opened to the public last March. With the help of the Home Missions committee of the Wilmington Presbytery and interested friends throughout the state, the total indebtedness has been paid. CARLN. DUNN GETS IN PAGES OF POST ON PAPER DELIVERY Carl Pf. Dunn, of Bradley’s creek, president of Air Progress, Inc., which operates the Wilmington Air Park on the Wrightsville Beach highway has been “written up’’ in an article in the current issue of the Saturday Evening Post. The article, entitled, “News boys Are Sprouting Wings,’’ was written about Dunn delivering newspapers by airplane. The story says that in 1939 the circulation manager of the Fort Myers, Fla., News-Press was having trouble de. livering his papers to places that were not very accessible except by long trips in trucks or boats, Dunn at that time was operating an air port there and he came to the res cue by delivering the papers by airplane. Later, according to the article, it developed into a shop ping service. CEILINGS REMOVED ON MISCELLANEOUS HEAVY, LIGHT ITEMS WASHINGTON, Aug. 21 — m OPA Wednesday announced re moval of price ceilings on another list of miscellaneous items. In cluded were: Rentals on buses, trucks of 40,000 pounds or more gross weight, and smaller trucks used as tank trucks, garbage trucks, patrol wagons, snow plows and street sprinklers, effective Thursday. Liquid and dry malt syrups and maltose syrups both bulk and packaged, effective Thursday. These are used largely by bakers but alio go into the textile w*« pharmaceutical industry. A number of chemical product* including cyanides used in case hardening steel, electroplating dperations, or berairing skins in the leather industry; beeswax compositions containing 50 per cent or more beeswax,- and clean ing fluids packaged for household use and based on alkyl benzene sulfonate. The action becomes ef fective Thursday.
