For Newspaper Service Dial 2-3311 BENSON MAY ATTEND CITY MANAGERS MEET City Manager J. R. Benson may attend the International convention of City Managers at Coronodo, Calif., next October. The city council at yesterday’s session cleared the way for his attendance by voting, on motion of W. E. Yopp, that Benson be instructed to attend the Matter was left to the city manager de pending upon his finding time for ihe trip. Brief discussion ensued on wheth er he sould drive, bo by train or fly, if he is able to attend, with the consensus favoring the trip by plane. The convention is sched uled for October 15. COUNCIL MEMBERS HOLD LONG SESSION The city-county joint committee workir g out details for budget ex penditures for the ensuing fiscal vear were closeted from 3 until 6 o. m., yesterday in City Manag er* J. R. Benson’s office. It Droved a long day for some of the council members whose regular morning session lasted un til 1 p-m. When council members and coun ty commissioners emerged from the afternoon session they reported having made headway on budget reauirements as concerns the James Walker Memorial and Com munity hospitals. Also discussed was the fate of the Associated Charities. The Council and the commission ers as a group will meet at 10 a. m., today to consider the proposed establishment of a domestic rela tions court. ONSLOW LIONS FETED BY METHODIST GROUP JACKSONVILLE, July 23—Mem bers of the Methodist Youth cara van headed by Miss Mabel Spence Watson as adult counselor enter tained the local Lions in their meeting this week with games and songs. Miss Watson explained the purpose of the youth caravans in touring this section. COUNCIL TALKS OF MANY THINGS The Time Has Come, The Council Says, To Talk Of Dogs, Cabs,. Scooters Motorscooters, dogs, taxicajps and laundrettes all g°l mixed up together somehow yesterday at the'city council session. When it was all over the motor scooters, dogs and taxicabs werej just where they were when the whole matter started. But the laundrettes were facing license fees. City Manager J. R. Benson was the man to bring up the proposals. He urged passage of what he described was an ordinance for identification of motorscooters. That lead into a discussion of is suing. identification tags for motorcycles and bicycles using motors. Councilman W. E Yopp laugh ingly suggested ihat an ordinance outlawing them ail as nuisances would have his support. The iden tifying proposal was turned over to the city attorney for drafting of an ordinance. Renewed was a previous pro posal outlawing passengers from riding in the front seat of taxi cabs with the driver unless there were at least two persons in the rear seat. Council members decided to learn more about such ordinance.; in other cities before taking any action.
