Cattle — Grainfeds 25 cents high „ cows 25 cents lower; top $31.85. new YORK, July 24— (JP)—'The cock market today enjoyed its ijcond widest rally of July as a sizable batch of bullish earnings ,nd cividends touched off short covering and investment demand. The industrial average climbed to Its best level in almost a year with pjvotals advancing 1 to S or more points. The forward swing got under way after a fairly active opening with steels, buoyed by the outlook ior boosted metal prices, in front. They were followed by oils, cop pers, motors, rails and special issues. Dealings speeded up in the forenoon, tapering at intervals. While extreme gains were shaded in most cases at the close, the plus column was unusually well populated. Transfers of 1,570,000 shares compared wnn 1,080,000 Wednesday and were a maximum since July 14. Both public and professional bid ding was attributed partly to in flation psychology, mounting opti mism for business and hopes that the summer upswing had much farther to go before meeting op position. Many customers were skeptical, however, and these trimmed commitments on the idea that technical correction was over due. muiion Arguments Doubts regarding the long-term export picture and foreign affairs remained as an argument for caution. The Associated Pncss 60-Stock Composite was up .8 of a point at 68.5, sharpest runup since July 1. It was at the highest mark since early February.
