When A Hats A Hat... I DRAPED SAILOR . . . Lilly Dache’s draped burgundy velvet sailor for fall. BERET, 1947 STYLE . . . Large, elegant and manipulated, pumpkin-colored wool. Bv DOROTHY ROE Associated Press Fashion Editor j;le bigger the better is the .pprld for fall hats. p :: mined not to be outdone fcv -iu- dress designers, who have Ji red up a nationwide storm of mroversy ovet the radical f'r.'ores in the new silhouette, ; r;ers also have prepared some c ’leers for fall. ' As imps bulge and shoulders droop according to the fall de crees if the designers, hats also , A >;,rger and more elaborate. G :s the day of the beanie and the doll hat. Next season, a hat is going to be an important proj ect, not just an afterthought. Favorite silhouette ot the ad vance fall collections is the bloused or draped beret crown combined with a cloche, cuff or melium off-face brim. Often this generous piece of headgear, which by the way, fits snugly down on the head all the way round, is ufrther elaborated by feathers, fur, glittering rolls of metallic lame or poufs of velvet or satin. The dramatic wide brim is in high favor, sometimes extended further by side trimmings of feathers of bows. Turbans also have come into their own once more, especially for dinner wear, done in lush materials such as velvet or lame, to contrast with furs. The beret also is back in the running — not the simple little Basque cap of schoolgirl fame, but new, elaborately drapped ver sions. The coming season provides a field day for milliners, as practi cally every hat is draped, sculp tured and manipulated. Simple blocked crowns and straight brims are few and far between. 11911 SILHOUETTE . . . Croyden’s deep head fitting bonnet in garnet velvet. FABULOUS NOTE . . . Braagaard’s big felt sailor trimmed in white mink tails. | SOCIAL CALENDAR — | MONDAY I 3:30 p. m.—The Woman's society of Christian service of the Trinity Methodist church will meet this afternoon in the church.
