C., Star Athlete of Guilford Col lege from 1934-1938, has accepted the coaching position at the Long Creek-Grady High School in Pen der County, as announced by Principal Allen H. Stafford. Mr. Tilson graduated from Guil-j ord College in 1938 and coached OPENINGS LISTED FOR GI’S IN AREA ———__ Lieut. Markus Receives Notice Of 74 Openings In Third Army The local Sub-Station of the Uni ted States Army Recruiting Ser vice has received notice of 74 openings for former sericemen of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard in units stationed at four different installations in the Third Army Area, according to a statement issued today by Lt. Charles J. Markus, Command ing Officer of the local sub-station. The openings are as follows: Hq Third Army, Atlanta, Georgia, 7; “V” Corps, Tort Bragg, N. C., 36; 188th Medical Battalion, Fort Jack son, S. C., 8; Hp. De'.acrment, 335th Ordnance Battalion, Fort Bragg, N. C., 5; 2nd Mobile Army Surgical Hospital, Fort Bragg, N. C., 11; and Army Service Unit 344?. Fort McPherson, Georgia, 7. Those openings will be changed from time to time as they are filled and more openings occur. The assignments will be filled by former members of the Army, Navy, Marine corps and Coast Guard, who may apply for direct assignment to these jobs. Once en listing for one of these openings, the men will be prorfaised that they will not be transferred to a post outside of the Third Army Area at Oakhurst High School in Meck lenburg County for three years, prior to the war. Drafted into the service in 1941, Mr. Tilson rose to lieutenantcy in the paratroop ers, and was an instructor at Fort Benning, Georgia, for three years. He coached at Southern Pines during the 1946-1947 school year. Tilson will have complete charge of the athletics at Long Creek School, personally coaching the boys in baseball and basketball. He will make his home in Wil- j mington, and commute daily.
