Four new members were in
ducted into the Junior Chamber
of Commerce Auxiliary at. their
dinner meeting held last night
in the Friendly cafeteria.
Inducted were Mesdames Sue
Anderson, Betty Johnson, Jean
ette King, and Mable Cooper.
The Jaycee Auxiliary voted
unamiously to help the Junior
Sorosis with selling TB seals on
December 12 and 13.
Bitsie Howard delivered a brief
talk on the Freedom Train, which
will arrive in Wilmington, Dec.
10.
Three Jaycettes were appointed
to act as hostesses with the mem
bers of the Does at the Governor
Dudley on Dec. 9, prior to the
coming of the Freedom Train.
Selected were: Mrs. Francis God
win, Mrs. Helen Fountain, Mrs.
Mabel Cooper.
New appointments were made
to various committess. They were
the appointments of Mrs. Mabel
Cooper to the social committee,
Sue Anderson to the public re
lations committee, Jeanette. King
to the Scout committee, and Betty
Johncon to the constitution.
The Auxiliary will meet Dec.
18, an the office of the Junior
Chamber of Commerce.

after being confined at the Vet- j
erans hospital at Fayetteville for ;

table? Morris S. Rosenthal New
York, president of the National
Council of American Importers,
asked the 345h National Foregn
Trade convention here.
He brought up the question in
connection with tariff classifica
tions. Rosenthal reported that a
silk pincushon shaped like a
pear once bore a higher rate of
customs duty than a pincushion
shaped like a tomato.
“The former,’’ he said, “was
| classified as an artifcal frut,
but the Supreme Court decided
long ago that a tomato (biologi
cally considered a fruit) is only
a vegetable.”

ELIZABETHTOWN MEN
HURT IN AUTO CRASH

BLADENBORO, Dec. 4—Two
broth ers, Clayton and William
Register, of Elizabethtown, were
seriously injured here tonight
about 7 o'clock when their car
crashed into an oak tree.
Clayton, 21, suffered multiple
fractures, cuts and bruises. Wil
liam, 24. received a fractured
shoulder and his condition was
termed serious by attches at Bak
er hosppital at Lumberton.
Deputy Sherriff J. M. McKeith
an said the Register men swerved
their car in an attempt to avoid
hitting another unidentified car
that crashed a stop street at the
corner of Main and Oak Ridge
streets.
They were rushed to the Lumb
erton hospital in an ambulance
of the Peacock Fuperal home.
