Mrs. Hannah Carey and son, Mr. James Carey left the city Satur day July 11, for Milwaukee, Wis., where they will spend their sum mer vacation. They also plan to visit their relatives in Wis. The Annual Open House of the Jolly Jacksonettes Club was held June 29th at the home of Mr. and | Mrs. Melvin Hendrex. Presiding over the guest book were Mrs. Daisy Lee Lewis and Miss kmia L. McGhee, and serving the refreshing punch were Mrs. Mary B. Hester and Mrs. Naomi Hendrex. Contributions to the Art Exhibit were made by Mesdames Lula Belle Benton, Mary Belle Hester, Willie Mae Shirley, Beatrice Brown, Freida Powell, Naomi Hendrez and Carolina Rogers. Mrs. Mattie Wallace, Nee Mattie Henderson, was the out-of town guest and left Wednesday for her home in Siginaw, Mich., after an extended visit here among relatives and friends. Mrs. Matilda Russell of Jackson, Miss., who now resides in Chicago, 111., is in the city visiting relatives and friends. Mrs. Russell is the mother of Joe Newman, who is now the Advertising Manager of the Jack son Advocate. Elbony Social and Civic Club met on Sunday, June 21, in the home of Mrs. Sarah T. Lee, 1323 More i house street, with Mrs. Geneva Denson presiding. Plans were dis : cussed in regards to a midsummer I project . . . these plans being pro cessed but not as yet completed. On July 5th the members and their guests enjoyed a delightful afternoon picnicing on the Natchez | Trace. At' this time Mrs. Lee’s birthday was celebrated by the members and friends in a big way. The next meeting will be held in the home of Mrs. Mary Pace, 1921 Midway street on Saturday, Julv 19. The Sunnydale Garden Club clos ed a successful year with a lunch eon given by the hostess, Mrs. Rosie Sanders, at her home on West Pearl Street. After a short business session guests were in vited into the dining room by Miss Alpha Thames. The table was overlaid with a beautiful eutwork imported linen cloth with a large mass arrange ment of pink flowers as center piece. After grace was said bv I Mi ss N. L. Lightfoot the eight ; members present enjoyed a two course dinner. Club was adjourned until September 20th for the next meeting. __ A recent meeting of the Progres- 1 sive Matrons was held in Mrs. j Hundley’s home on Morton street recently. The reception rooms were beautifully decorated with pot flowers. Mrs. Kinnie interestedly discussed the lesson, with helpful points contributed by the members. Devotional exercises were led by Mrs. Ruby Rogers. The ladies also enjoyed a birth day celebration with the hostess and were served delicious and re freshing party treats. The Progres sive Matrons will have a brief va-^| cation until the fourth Wednesday night in August. Honored guests at the meeting were: Mrs. Geneva Denson, president, and Mrs. Sadie Hendrix, sec. of the Junior Ma trons. The club expressed deep sympathy to Mrs. Wolfe in the death of her relatives.
