European Premiere Of Latin American Play “El Condor” Bari, Italy, September 27, 1962 — “It is an atom bomb. He was com menting on the European premi. ere of “El Condor” which was g)ven before an audience of Bari’s most distinguished citi zens who were aflame with en thusiasm from the start. The wife of the manager of the principal hotel, who was trained by Dr. Levet of the Grand Hotel in Rome, said, “The best people in Bari were all there.” The atmosphere was electric in the gleaming crimson, gold and white theatre whose five tiers of boxes were lined with red damack. When the red cur tain opened in the Municipal Theatre on the colorful force from 23 nations and the singing of the National Anthem, the capacity audience burst into ap plause. In the audience was the Mayor, Professor Lozupone, whose message was read from the stage at the opening of the evening. It said: “Your effort will inspire all men of goodwill to work effectively for a better world.” Others included the president ! of the Chamber of Industries, di Chirico, with his whole family; the Rector of the University, Professor del Prete; the Pro vincial Secretary of the Chris tian Democratic Party of Rot olo; the head of the Confederat ion of Free Trade Union. (Cl SL); most of the City Council; professors and the head of the student body of the University with a large group of students, and twenty-five nuns who filled one of the rows. Directors of La Gazetta del Mezzogiorno and II Giornal del Levante, the Chief of the Na tional News Agency (ANSA) which had five men covering the event, and a representative of the National Committee of the Christian Democratic Party who travelled from Rome to be present at the show, were also there. Message to the Mayor of Bari were read from African leaders and Dutch Burgomasters. One of the South Americans said, “Moral Re-Armament is the idea that will change Italy.” His remarks were drowned by thunderous applause. The Council of Economic Advisors estimates that the nation’s gross national product would rise by $13,000,000,000 if all jobs were handled solely on the basis of merit and without regard to ir relevant considerations of an cestry. The increase would rise to $17,000,000,000 if the oppor tunity to train for all jobs were open on the same basis. “In other words, job discrimi nation will cost us $13,000,000, 000 to $17,000,000,000 this year.” The Vice President pointed out the importance of speedy adjudication of complaints of dircrimination. “We are dealing with a pro gram that involves justice, and one of the oldest and truest of legal maxims is that justice de layed is justice denied,” he said. “It is important to all of us that anyone who feels he is aggrieved have confidence that his or her complaint will be adjudicated fairly, honestly and rapidly.” He commended the Depart ment of the Army for its train ing program for employment policy officers, who supervise the equal employment opportun ity program in the Department, and pointed out that other gov ernment departments likewise are conducting training pro grams. “Our government cannot de clare equal employment oppor tunity to be a national policy unless the government’s house is in order,” he continued. “And we are now engaged in every possible type of activity to as sure that the government’s house will be in order.
