Green Bay Packers Halfback Howie Williams Tapped For Honor Society At Howard U. Eight Other Students Elected To Engineering Group; Badge Presented To Honor Coed Washington, D. C. — Green Bay Packers halfback Howie Williams was among nine How ard University students induct ed last week into Tau Beta Pi, the nation’s foremoBt honor so ciety in engineering. An electri cal engineering student major ing in electronics, Williams will be graduated in June. Other inductees included five seniors and three juniors. In addition the Tau Beta Pi Badge of Honor was presented to a coed, who, because of her sex, is ineligible for membership in the society. W’illiams is a 26-yeai:-old na tive of Spartanburg, S. C. who made the championship Green Bay team as a rookie last year after completing his college ath letic eligibility at Howard in 1961. A veteran of four years in the U. S. He is expected to turn them down for the present, however, and report to the Pack ers for pre-season drills in July. Williams lives with his wife, the former Toyoko Oda of Yan aguchi, Japan, and 16-month old son at 1329 Rittenhouse St., northwest. There is fine talent among the youngsters, but hundreds of them never have a chance to develop this talent. Realizing this fact, the Boy’s Baseball Association was organ ized in 1959 and has continued throughout the years to work toward giving every boy a chance to play and compete against each other to develop his talents as best he can. White, a senior majoring in electrical engineer ing, was given the society’s Badge of Honor. She is the daughter of Mrs. Aimer W. Wil liams, Rt. 1, Box 149, Brookneal, Va. The Howard chapter of Tau Beta Pi was established in 1956. Total national membership of the honor society is nearly 100, 000, with chapters in leading engineering schools throughout America. The society was found- ; ed in 1885 at Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Pa. THE BOYS BASEBALL ASSOCIATION The Boys Baseball Associa tion is a non-profit tax exempt organization, formerly operated by the Cavalier Club; but later abandoned. The Boys Baseball Association was founded by Cur tis Coward in 1959. Most of the uniforms and equipment used by the Boys Baseball Associa tion is in fair condition with a little mending. We have l>een fortunate in securing equipment of this sort given to the boys by the Servian Club of Jack son. We are very grateful to you that helped acquire three new set sof uniform since 1959. We have several yearly don ors, who donotes each year. Most of our contributions come from organizations, contests and hand-outs. Our apparent handi cap is getting devoted civic minded men and women to help carry on this program each year. Since 1959 we have kept more than 1200 boys busy during the summer months. Our inten tions is to have 18 baseball teams in 1963. Age for qualification in the following teams: Little League 9-12, Babe Ruth 13-15. Team Sau Paulo, Brazil (Special)— One of the mainstays of the U. S. basketball team participating in the Pan-American games is big Willis Reed, a 6-10 235 pound giant labeled “the most underrated player on the Am erican squad.” Reed is a junior from Gram bling College, a perennial small college basketball power. Pan-American game obser vers claim that he has the poise and confidence of a professional star and supposedly is yet to reach his peak. He and 6-9 Lucious Jackson ; of Pan American College, Edin burg, Texas are the biggest members of the U. S. team. Last season Reed scored 699 points and grabbed 563 re bounds to garner spots on the Associated Press, United Press I International and NAIA AL1 i American teams, and starred ' in the Pan-American trials, i Reed is making his second visit to Sau Paulo. Last summer he was one of ! 14 U. S. cagers who made a six week goodwill tour of Latin America for the Department of State. Nicholson Grambling, La. (Special) — The Grambling Tigers have made it abundantly clear that they still have the competitive spark that won Southwestern Conference titles in ’61 and '62. The talented Tigers moved back into first place in the SW AC race Saturday and will like ly remain in the familiar spot, despite anguished bleats from Southern University and Jack son State. Jackson led the league brief ly last week before suffering a severe case of tanglefoot in a series with Grambling. The Big Blues were embarrassed and completely deflated by the de fending champions.
