Mrs. Bosnos was the re cipient of a plaque given by the southern Pacific Coast region of Hadassah for bringing in the most new members during the year 1957-58. The Tucson chap ter also received an award from regional headquarters for being the only chapter to retain most of its former members during the year 1957-58. Mrs. Jack Stair re ceived the award for the chapter. Mrs. Besserman was named Tucson’s Haddassah Woman-of-the-Year in rec ognition of her contribution of time and effort for Ha dassah. Mrs. Meyer Cohen was installing officer for the af fair held at the Desert Inn. Send-A-Kid-To-Camp Campership Aid Is Urged Application for camperships for less-chance youngsters have hit a record high, officials of the Tucson Jewish Social Service announced in issuing a plea for campership help. Each year the applications are made by needy families to provide summer-time recreation for youngsters who will have no vacations, or swim ming or special play privileges. The Tucson Jewish community in the past has provided camperships for these youngsters through donations. Social Service officials said funds for camperships are urgently needed and appealed for donations to be sent to Jewish Social Service, 102 N. Plumer. CJA Leaders Pressing For Payment Os Pledges Leaders of the Tucson Combined Jewish Appeal have issued an urgent request for the quick payment of 1958 CJA pledges. The appeal was made following a request from national United Jewish Appeal and Israel officials for cash to be presented at the anniversary conference of UJA in Jeru salem June 24. Tucson leaders received the request from Samuel H. Dar off, national cash chairman for UJA. MR. DAROFF asked that the Tucson community send in at least $25,000 to aid Is rael at this time. He sent along a copy of a cablegram he received from Dov Joseph, treasurer of the Jewish Agency. The cablegram read: “Tre mendous pleasure learn your appointment 1958 national cash chairman. All Israel re joicing celebrating its inde pendence, but for 120,000 in Maabarot huts who have been waiting for 5 and 6 years for homes and the tens of thou sands in agricultural settle ments who have been left for several years without live stock and farm equipment be cause we lack funds their personal day of independence has not yet arrived. Cut in the fat; add eggs and water. Form into a smooth dough, roll into a thin sheet and cut into six squares. Add to ground meat mashed potatoes, salt, pepper and fried onions. Place some of the meat mixture on each square. Moisten edges of the dough and fold over the meat. Press the edges of the dough firmly together. Brush melted fat in a baking pan, place the knishes in it and bake in a heated oven 350 degs. F. un til browned on top about % of an hour. o • • Fruited Honey Squares 3 eggs IVn cups honey Vt teaspoon vanilla 1M cups flour 1 teaspoon baking powder teaspoon salt 1 cup crushed nuts Vt cup candied citron Vt cup seeded raisins Beat eggs until lemon col ored and thick. Gradually beat in the honey and add half teaspoon of vanilla. Sift, then measure the flour and resist with baking powder and salt. Add crushed nuts, candied citron, seeded raisins to the dry ingredients. Add the dry ingredients to the egg mixture gradually beat ing them in well. Pour the batter into a greased tin 9x9 inches, and bake in a moderate oven 350 deg. F. 15-20 minutes. Let the cake stand in the pan five minutes. Then turn out the cake on a rack to cool. When cold sprinkle with powdered sugar and cut into squares. • • • Filled Pickled Tongue 1 pickled tongue Vt cup ground corned beef 2 eggs Vt cup fried onions V 2 cup bread crumbs Make an incision in one side of the pickled tongue. Chop or grind the cooked corned beef. Add well beaten eggs, fried onions, 1 table spoon fat and bread crumbs. Fill the tongue with this mix ture, sew the edges firmly together, and cook in water to cover 3 to 4 hours, or un til tender. Remove thick skin and slice.
