My Favorite Recipe: Old-Fashioned Honey Cake Traditional Taste-Treat Mrs. I. Margolis, recently chosen Woman-of-the-Year at the Mother’s Day celebration of the Morris Wanger Branch of Workmen’s Circle, has a traditional treat as her favorite recipe. It’s an old-fashioned honey cake, famed for its taste. MRS. MARGOLIS, who has lived in Tucson for 16 years, is well known for her Jewish recitation and dramatics. She belongs to Hadassah, is a board member and is chair man of the hospital visita tion committee. She is a mem ber of the Anshei Israel Mrs. I. Margolis Sisterhood and i.s education chairman for Workmen’s Cir cle. She aided in the organi zation of the Tucson chapter of City of Hope. Here is Celia Margolis’ favorite recipe: OLD-FASHIONED HONEY CAKE 1 lb. Honey 1 cup sugar 3 eggs 2 cups coffee 4 clips*"flour call-purposet 4 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. allspice 1 tsp. cinnamon 1 tsp. ginger l 2 tsp. nutmeg r 2 tsp. cloves % lb. raisins 2 oz. almonds (cut length wise i. Beat eggs until light. Add sugar and beat until thick. Beat in the honey and add all the dry ingredients alternate ly with the coffee. Add rai sins and pour into an oiled or greased large pan. Sprin kle with almonds and bake in a moderate oven for about Vs or % of an hour. Mex. Mrs. Pearlman was a buyer at the College Shop. He is from Washington, D.C. The Pearlmans have opened the Grant Mercantile Co. They will be at home at 4817 E. Winsett Blvd. • • • Joan E. Tobias, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Tobias, was married to Sydney E. Salmon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Salmon, on June 1 at Cong. Anshei Israel. Attending the wedding were the immediate families and out-of-town guests. Don Tobias, brother of the bride, was the best man. Mrs. Nor man Salmon, sister-in-law of the groom was the matron of honor. Norman Salmon, the groom’s brother, was usher and Mrs. Don Tobias, sister in-law of the bride, was bridesmaid. Out-of-town guests included Mr. and Mrs. George Lipsitz, aunt and uncle of the groom. Mrs. Tobias graduated from the University of Ari zona where she majored in English, speech and did a year of graduate work. She will teach English, speech and dramatics in Berkeley -High School in'the St. Louis suburbs. Mr. Salmon graduated from the University of Ari zona with a B.A. in philo sophy. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Tau Delta Phi, Beta Beta Beta, Sophos, Blue Key and was business manager of the Arizona Wild cat. He will enter Washing ton University College of Medicine in St. Louis in the fall. The couple honeymooned in Mexico City, after which they will reside in St. Louis. • • • Audrey Torchin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Tor chin, became the wife of Stanley Asher Prell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Isadore Prell, at an informal ceremony at Tempe Emanu-El June 1. Mrs. Jack Torchin was matron-of-honor and brides maids were Mrs. Herman Shindell and Misses Lois Bro der and Sandra Zigmond. Ileen Weiss was junior at tendant. Mr. Shindell was best man and ushers were the bride’s brother, Donald Torchin, and Ev Broder. The new bride is a gradu ate of Walton High in New York and attended the Uni versity of Arizona. Mr. Prell attended Arizona State Col lege at Tempe and is an undergraduate at the Uni versity of Arizona in electri cal engineering. Out-of-town guests included Mr. and Mrs. David Kahn of Detroit, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Pion, uncles and aunts of the bride, and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Moses Steinberg.
