A crowd of jolly Bear River young people m a de a short visit to the Ur dahl home Sunday evening. Little Eleanor Lagerquist has re turned from an extended visit in Proc tor with her aunt, Mrs. Oscar Olson. Rev. Fadum of Virginia held Nor wegian services Sunday at the Nor wegian Lutheran church at Bear Ri”er. O. J. Urdahl arrived home from Hibbing Monday. While there he had been confined in the Rood hospital for appendicitis. He is now on the road to recovery. A. D. Jenkins is on the sick list this week. Bob Hodom was over from Nass to help audit the clerk's and treasurer’s books Tuesday. Beulah Schwartz spefit the week end with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George Lockwood. Mrs. H. M. Lockwood and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Schwartz were visitors at George Lockwood's home Thursday. Glen Hemphill and John Langhausen left for Hibbing Tuesday where they expect to find employment with the Transportation Bus company. H. M. Lockwood took a load of lum ber north to M. Northerns Thursday. He expects to help L. P. Carpenter get the remainder of his logs into the landing before returning. The Bear River Valley Telephone company held their annual meeting March sth for the purpose of electing three directors to replace H. M. Lock wood. Charles Beck and Lars Brude. whose terms expired on that date. Those elected were A. D. Jenkins. Miles Nelson and Ole Johnshrud all for three years. Notice is hereby given that on April 15, 1918 at 10 o’clock a. m. in the of fice of the county auditor, at Grand Rapids, Itasca county, in the State of Minnesota, I will offer for sale certain unsold state lands and also those state lands which have reverted to the state by reason of the non-payment of interest. Terms of Sale: Fifteen per cent of the purchase price is payable to the County Treas urer at the time of sale. The unpaid balance is payable at any time in whole or in part within forty years from the date of sale, interest rate of four p»r cent per annum, due on June Ist, of each year; provided, that the interest can be paid at any time with in the interest year without penalty. Tn effect, this means that the interest money may be paid anv time between June first and May thirty-first with out penalty. The appraised value of timber, when so stated, must be paid in full at the time of sale. All mineral rights are reserved to the State by the laws of the State. All lands are sold subject to any and all ditch taxes thereon. Lands on which the interest has be come delinquent may’ be redeemed at any time up to the hour of sale, or be fore resale, to the actual purchaser. Such lands are listed under the cap tion: ‘.Delinquent Lands.” No person can purchase more than 320 acres of land, provided, however, that State lands purchased previous to 1905. are not charged against such purchaser. No lands will be sold to an alien. Agents acting for purchasers must furnish affidavit of authority. Appraisers’ reports showing quality and kind of soil are on file in this of fice. All over the country the important rail road points, the bridges, the big grain ele vators, munition factories and water-supply systems have been guarded, first by detach ments of the national guard and now by private watchmen. This need is requiring special telephone service, and the total amount of telephone work to provide it is enormous. The call to arms brought to the Bell Tele phone System imperative duties and respon sibilities. No nation entered the war with any where near the number of skilled telephone men, or as dependable and comprehensive telephone service as this country possessed. When the war came, telephone plants had to be built or enlarged at all the army posts, training camps, navy yards and department headquarters. Similar telephone systems have had to be installed in the American training camps, army headquarters, hospi tals, etc., in Europe. In addition to the military demands for telephone service, business activity, acceler ated and increased by the war, has required enormous amounts of telephone service and equipment. ■
