rHE DE OCRAT. Tri-WVeek.ly Official Journal of the City of Alexandria. Henry L. Biossat, Business Manager SILVER LINING TO THE CLOUD As in the dark hours of our great revolution, the night watchman in the streets of Philadelphia pro claimed : "Past 12 o'clock, and Cornwallis is taken." Thus are we i- reminded of it by the result of the election just held. Now may we ! joyfully proclaim, Cleveland iselec ` ted and Kellogg beaten. Two *events second in importance to none gone before. Let us bow in reve rence and render thanks to the Di vine Ruler of nations for this vic Y' tory, this dawning of a brighter ' day after our long dark night of corrupt Radical bondage. ALBANY, Nov. 5.-The Argus iill say to-morrow: "Cleveland is elected, and he will be inaugurat ed: States not at all in doubt have elected Cleveland and Hen diicks, who will take the seats to which the people have appointed them: Communications to the Ar gus to-day from counties in New York demonstrate the election of - Democratic electors by a conclusive and safe majority over Blaine. The electors having been made Demo eratic by the people, New York w. will remain, be declared and he Y counted Democratic, and whatever eeessury to this act of truth and ce b, thoroughly and fearlessly HE STATE ELECTION. - From re orts all in Cleveland's majority in 'ouisiana is 17,401. We have elected five out of six congressmen by good round majorities. Their names are St. Martin in thoe First District, Gay in the Third, Blan Schard in the Fourth, King in the ,- ,Fifth and Irioth in the Sixth. In the Second District Houston was defeated by the Republican candi date Michael Hahn. The best of all is the defeat of Kellogg in the Third District by dŽ:,,ay. On Wednesday morning the first dispatches coming over the wires announced the election of Cleve land and Iendricks. In the after noon of the same day, however, the Associated Press dispatches told us that the great State of New York was in doubt, with the probability of a small Republican majority. This somewhat dampened our spir its until Thursday aftcrdbon, when both the Press dispatches and pri vate telegrams told us that the "Plumed Knight" had been utterly annihilated, and the pure patriot, Grover .Cleveland, would occupy the Presidential chair for the next four years. We append the latest telegrams, and from them we glean enough to assure our readers that they may safely join us in a "Hip ! Hip! Hurrah !. for Cleveland and Hendricks !" SHREVEPORT, Nov. 6, 2:25 P.
