Iv those who have patronized the Hey man establibhment for the past eight years, are asked not to give credence to the report, that that establishment would close business at the end of the present year. Such is not the case, and the originators of such a diaboli cal falsehood, ought he rebuked. Mrs. D. Heyman, as administratrix, and Mr. Dan Hiller, as manager, intend to "hold the fort," so to speak, and boon, the business. The same will be run on as usual, and the patronage of the public is solicited. The lHeyman es tablishment has no idea of closing its doors. No I No! -To put the editor of. the Town Tldk right in reference to the Polk resolution, offered at the last Parish (Convention, we would say that after it [the resolution on paperj was given over to the Committee on Resolutions, the Secretary saw nothing more of it. It was only returned .a few days later by a member of the commnittee, who had unintentionally placed it in his pocket, and reached as too late to he inserted in the proceedings of. the Con vention. The Secretary, however, had not forgotten (?) it as the Town Talkl says. --Tag finest stock of candies, fancy and mixed, has just been received at Mires Rosenthal's. Go and see. -NoTWITuSTANDINs the fact that it had been well advertised in both the Alexandria papers for two weeks previous, the Swann Executive Com mnittee, at their meeting on Saturday last, in Judge Ryan's office, had but two members present, viz: John J. Swann and E. G. Hunter. Mr. John C. Ryan had Mr. Smith's proxy; (Mr. Smith is not a member of the Commit lee, but merely holds Mr. Dorsett's proxy.) Mr. Hunter also held Mr., Calhoun's proxy. Mr. Hunter offered three resolutions which were seconded by Mr. Ryan, and Mr. Ryan offered two resolutions which were seconded by Mr. Hunter. The motions were carried. Arrangements were made to prepare an address, a committee was appointed to receive Mr. Blanchard here on the 30th, and the Town Talk was made the "official journal." Tna STonM.-The gale which swept over our Parish last week did some harm but not as much as was anticipated. In somue places fences were blown down, the cane was laid flat, and cotton that bhad not been picked over beat out by winds and rain to a considerable extent. VWe are fortunate in having so little damage, comparatively to otlher places in the Gulf States. The account from Saline Pass, Point-a-la-Hache, and other places in Louisiana and Texas are truly distressing. The visitations of the recent earthquake in Charleston and other places do not compare with the loss of life and property in the little town of Sabine Pass. Only two houses left in the whole village and two hundred and fifty human beings sac rifticed by the angry flood. To read the accounts given by the press is heartrend ing, and we can but feel gratefiul that no sucnh calamity has befallen our Parish. Notwithstanding the great flood in Jane the prospects for a good crop are encour agidng, and our Parish is blessed in esca ping the great disasters which have visi ted other sections of the country, -T.H: action of Mayor Crawley, on Monday afternoona, in fining Mr. Nel son Taylor for contempt, (hecause his horse had been turned loose upon the publid streets,) was too hasty, and is highly condemned by many of our best citizens. Theofact'that the May or had previously outlawed the horse and ordered his owner to keep tho animal shut np at 'night, something he had no right to do under the ordi nances of the Town, thepeople hav iag settled that question at an eleo tion some years ago, when they said at the ballot box that horses, cows, etc., should run at large on the streets, was bad enough, but -when on Mon day he ordered Mr. Taylor arrested and fined him for disobeying his or ders, he went too azr. Citizens have rights, and the laws are intended as much for their protection atfor their punishment, and also to hold officials in cheek. Mr. Taylor did not have the money with which to pay the fine, and was placed in the locknp, where be remained about thirty minutes, when-a friend sent him the money, and he thus gained his liberty. In connection with this case we will add that Mr. Taylor has engaged Mr. E. G. Hunter as his attorney and intends suening the Corporation for $10,000 for false imprisonment. Bueklen's Arnica Salve. The pupose of the C6mpany is to buildt and construct a standard gonage road, starting -at Ka..sas City, M0o.; at or near the southeast corner of Wyandotte county and running thence in a southetn ly course through the counties ofiMiami, Linn, Bouirbon, Allen, Neosho, Labette and Montgomery, to the line of the Indian Territory, and running thence in a south eruly direction to its terminus in Shreve port, La. The charter also provides for a branch, having the main line at Erie, Neosho county, and running through the counties of Nelson, Elk, Butler, Sedge wick, to Wichita, Kan. A second braitch is provided for, which shall leave the main line at Howard, Elk county, and run in a southwesterly direction through Cowley county to Arkansas City. The estimated length of the road and proposed branches is 700 miles. Capital stock $12, 000,000. No doubt this road,'as the Public Opinion, of Texarkana, Ark., says-"Is to become a formidable rival to the great c Gould system and is reaching out for a more direct route from Topeka and Kan- I sas City to New Orleans." The paper t quoted last wants the road 'tt come via a Texarkana instead of Shreveport, arguing that the route would be much shorter.- 3 To build to Alexandria, says Plblio Opin ion, instead of Shreveport, it would run through just 92 seotions, making the dis tance from Kansas City to Alexandria via Texarkana about 150 miles. "To build via Texarkana lessens the distance to New Orleans from Kansas City not less than 75 to 100 miles, and over' this route much more traffic wonld be' conveyed up and down than could be possible over the route to Shreveport, aside from the big lumber and timber freights.'" The pro ject is a good one, and that our town is soon to be on i boom of the greatest mag nitude is r16 idle assertion. Roll up your sleeves, gentlemen, and let's have all the roads to come here. The DEMOCRAT Is. hi favor 9f such enterprises, and will lend its aid in supporting and aiding all it can. Sold by Jacob Geiger.: :.. CoTTro SEED AND A STEAMnBOAT.-Hn. B. W. Mfaraton, of Red river, has recently visited the Ohio river section of the coun try with a view of investigating the cot-' ton seed question, and to devise ways and means of getting a steamboat into Red= river to insure lower freights. Mr. Mars ton has come to the very wise conclusion ,that the "Cotton Oil Trust," the gigantic monopoly now sweeping the country of its cotton seed oil mills, is a natural ene my of the ptlanter, and that it will event nally seek to control the entire cotton seed preoduct at ruinously low rates for the producer. We are inclined to agree with ou'r correspondent, and we can see no way to meet the monopoly except by a combination of planters, rho- will agree not to sell their cotton seed unless fair rates are paid. A steamboat in Red river will insure competition, and this will-give low rates of freight. Our Red river friends will be gratified to learni that ar rangements have been completedlo give them a competing line of boats.-[Shreve port Times. --I Cheeses, Mires Rosenthal can not be heat.
